| Abstrak | : | A train is a means of transportationfor people and goods that has some advantages. Because ofthe possible policy, acts as well as technology, the train having a big carrying capacity and high speed will be able to gain an accessibility into the centre of a city. A train is profitable for both short and long distance transportation system. A big space within the wagon makes the passengersfeel comfortable and relaxed, and it will be possibly able to avoid them from fatique. In Jakarta the utilization of train as a means oftransportation is still very low compared with some metropolis in other countries. In Jakarta it reaches only two percent of the whole public transportation system. The high investment on the railway network has been one of the main obstacles to realize it. However, seeing the advantages described above, this matter has been being considered and discussed. |

| Abstrak | : | Bamboo has ben known well us, among other things, material for house construction. In Java bambo consumption is estimated ar ound 450 million bars per year, and 350 million of them are used for house constr uction. As bamboo has strong fibers to resist any stretch, it is necessary to have a further study and test on t he mechanical tratits of it. The bamboo's mechanical strength is determined by its water content, density, shape, size, the existence of "nodia", and the position of the sample when the test is conducted. The bamboo's physical trait is influenced by its water content, unit weight, and dimensional change. The bamboo's anatomy is determined by the anatomical str ucture and its fibres. By knowing the mechanical and physical traits, the utilization of bamboo can be planned and calculated better. Besides, this will provide necessary data of it and fix the standar dization of the bamboo's mechanical strength which has not existed so far (Janssen, 1981) |

It has been a relatively cheap construction material and it can meet the requirements of good feasible architetural work. Basically, a good architecture is an architecture which meeets humanneed and can be compfortable utility by people, and it also meets the requrements of utility, construction, and beuty sa well. The use of bamboo as a construction material refers to what so called biological architecture, that is the architecture which is suitable with the local climate. This is necessery to be developed in Indones ia. As bamboo is really useful for our life, especially for construction material, it is necessery to have further researches on its mechanical traits, duration, resistance towards insects, etc. By dong this, the bamboo' performance will be able to enhance, especcially related with architecture. |

| Abstrak | : | Architecture, human being, and environment are three factors which cannot be separated but closely related to each other. The relation between architecture and human beings is said to be old as human civilization because architecture is created for human beings (forms and theories of architecture were found 6,000 BC). Architecture and its environment are closely related. This relation can be seen from the ornaments with the natural elemen, the concept of unity between micro and macro cosmos, etc. In addition, human beings and their environments cannot be separated as well. Environment is a physical setting of human beings in realizing their ideas, especially in the context of their need of shelter. The three elements are so dynamic that they can easily change. The changes are considered to be positive if their equilibrium is well maintained. Otherwise, it is considered negative. Consequently, these factors must be kept in equilibrium. |

| Abstrak | : | The acoustics of a lecturing room will be appraised excellent if all students attending the lecture are able to get any single word clearly spoken by the teacher from a certain distance in accordance with the function and the size of the room which have been initially decided and calculated. The main problem appearing in the lecturing activities carried out in the fourth floor of the lecturing rooms of the Psychology Faculty is that the activities are disturbed by unexpected sount (noise) coming from out side, especially that from the traffic of the north of the building as well as of the south. As a campus, in fact, Soegijapranata Catholic University has located a very appropriate site since it lies in the peripherial area of Semarang by city supported by pleasantly hilly location with cool air. However, the buildings ofthe university's partly fail to create a quiet atmosphere which is expected to be conducive to a good and productive teaching-learning process. Unprecise calculation on the shape of the "opened wall "has probably been the reason making such a condition. Other possible problem is the long shaped building site which is in between two crowded roads; Jalan Pawiyatan Luhur connecting Jatingaleh and Sampangan and Jatingaleh-Krapyak arterial road. Besiden, it is worsened by the condition of the roads which are both elevating. |

| Abstrak | : | The failure of land-pile typed dam begins when there is an indication of landslide or land erosion of the slopes either at the lower or the upper course of the dam. To decide whether a sloping area is critical, there are many factors influencing, and it is difficult to know which the most influential factor is. A review on some planning conditions must be considered as an approach. To find out the site of sloping area and the score of critical security, a "try-out" method by making a contour of critial security score to get the minimum security score ofthe sloping area can be applied. |
