| Abstrak | : | Research has explored how science teachers can create equitable learning environments. In addition, research demonstrates that repre sentations can be powerful tools for supporting disciplinary learning and inviting and leveraging students’ diverse ideas and practices. Yet, professional development (PD) about representations has primarily focused on teachers’ knowledge of disciplinary practices rather than on how teachers can value and build upon students’ representations as resources for equitable sensemaking. In this paper, we present cases from a year-long professional development program with in-service elementary teachers designed to support science teaching with repre sentations. Through our work with these teachers, we have illustrated an approach to using representations that supports equitable sense making by: (1) making space for students to create personally mean ingful representations, (2) amplifying students’ representations, and (3) helping students iteratively refine their representations and ideas. These findings extend literature about inclusive science teaching by illustrating how focusing on students’ representations can support equitable sensemaking and by addressing tensions that emerge between equitable teaching, science standards that prioritize canoni cal knowledge and practices, and monoglossic language ideologies. |

| Abstrak | : | Since the discovery of the first planet outside the solar system in 1995, the detection of exoplanets has been an attractive and engaging scientific field. This article intends to present briefly the radial velocity method for detecting the presence of an unseen planet orbiting a star. Based on an experimental setup, the presentation resorts to the analogy between sound waves and light waves. In particular, they can undergo the Doppler effect from which the radial velocity can be determined. Because the Doppler effect is easier to observe for sound waves than for light waves, a Bluetooth speaker simulates a star. It rotates in a horizontal circle with a constant angular speed, while emitting at two user-selected frequencies, simulating two spectral lines of a star. From the analysis of spectrograms, the radial velocities are deduced. Very good agreement is found between the experiment and theory. |

| Abstrak | : | Captain Einstein is a virtual reality (VR) movie that takes you on a boat trip in a world with a slow speed of light. This allows for a direct experience of the theory of special relativity, much in the same spirit as in the Mr. Tompkins adventure by George Gamow (1939). In this paper, we go through the different relativistic effects (e.g., length contraction, time dilation, Doppler shift, light aberration) that show up during the boat trip, and we explain how these effects were implemented in the video production process. We also provide exercise questions that can be used-in combination with the VR movie-to gain insight and sharpen the intuition on the basic concepts of special relativity. |

| Abstrak | : | Learning to teach is a culturally situated activity. As teachers learn, it is important to understand not only what teachers learn, but how they learn. This article describes a qualitative case study of a subset of four teachers' learning during a professional development surrounding a plate tectonics curriculum. Using qualitative methods, this study tells the story of how the four teachers negotiated professional vision for science teaching around dilemmas that emerged throughout the professional development. By taking a sociocultural perspective on professional vision, researchers can gain insight into how and what teachers learn in professional develop ment settings because it renders teacher learning complex and nuanced. Additionally, we argue negotiating professional vision parallels sensemak ing. Sensemaking around science teaching includes grappling with epis temic issues of science in addition to pedagogy and curriculum. Implications f or science teacher education are discussed. Specifically, we argue learning to teach requires teachers to engage in conversations that create opportunities to "get somewhere" in relation to dilemmas they have about teaching. In this way, professional vision is an ongoing process of learning that has no endpoint or ideal articulation of teaching or science. Therefore, by framing professional vision as a process of learning we are able to push back on simplistic descriptions of teaching and science. |

| Abstrak | : | Preservice English language teachers (PSTs) realize and shape their perceptions regarding preparedness to teach during their education. However, being prepared to teach is complex and multifaceted and requires individual factors and interaction with context and other people. Therefore, understanding it from stakeholders’ lens is needed. Within a descriptive and exploratory design, one-on-one, semistructured interviews were conducted with 8 faculty advisors (FAs) and 11 cooperating teachers (CTs) supervising PSTs in primary, secondary, and high schools in a northwestern city in Türkiye. The data collected in teaching practicum stage of field experience was coded and categorized via constant comparison method of analysis. The FAs, except for few issues, regarded the PSTs as unprepared to teach, while the CTs did as prepared to teach. The emergence of a perception gap could show lack of common understanding and mismatch between the stakeholders’ perceptions regarding their standards of and approaches toward high-quality teacher preparation. |

| Abstrak | : | The application of linear regression to data analysis is traditionally a tedious calculation delegated to a computer. This article presents a physical model to facilitate an intuitive way of thinking about the slope of a fit. In this simple model, data points are envisioned as beads applying torques on a massless, rigid, horizontal rod. To illustrate how this model can help colleagues directly address special questions about fits, the model is applied to two situations in which there are repeated measurements of data. This rod-and-bead model also arrives at the coefficient of determination formula in a very straightforward way and makes the recollection of the least-squared slope formula and coefficient of determination much easier. |
