| Abstrak | : | Our lite is a divine gitt It belongs to God, the Creator We are not the masters We are only murusters of our life We are called to detend it and always take care of its integrity, as much as it is possible Concretely speaking, we are expected to look after our own health as well as of that ot others From the perspective of Christian faith, we need to say that God, the Creator, does not expect something beyond our human capability We are called only to do what we really can do |

| Abstrak | : | Christian theology has been reterred as a criticism against consumerism Yet, the position of some Christian traditions regarding economic lite is quite ambivalent On the one hand, some traditions show their followers the value of a simple litestyle, on the other hand, some traditions drive them to be pioneers in business and industry, producing goods including luxurious ones which eventually promote extreme consummerism In Indonesia, consumerism is as vast as in the West, but it is related more to the supply of imported commodities Theretore, while a theological re-ins?stment on a simple lifestvie may not be helpful in the West, it is still relevant to the Indonesian context A contextual economic theology does not only need to be critical ot consumerism, but should stimulate productivity The image of a morally responsible consumer interacting with morally responsible producers would be more appealing than that of an ascetic person from the pre-globalized era |

| Abstrak | : | Local identity has been considered as one legitimate concern in the rise of the "culture" of globalization The establishing of malls in the city of Yogyakarta which is well-known as 'the city of culture' has provoked discourse about local identity since malls are often considered as a symbol of globalization Some say that traditional market, one of the icons of the city, will not be able to compete with the modern one, and it could be marginalized and eventually eliminated by the global market But, malls should not merely be regarded as menace for local identity especially it it is seen as a 'cultural moment' Malls could become a place of encounter among local cultural products as well as with global elements which might result an empowering multiculturalism |

| Abstrak | : | Industrialized society has been greatly driven by major economical and political powers Science and technology, human resources, competition, social welfare, political participation and tolerance are widely discussed topics Meanwhile "non-commercial" issues such as human dignity, love, justice, solidarity and social responsibility have been very much down-toned Pragmatism was introduced consistently and through the insistence of mass- media propaganda a new way of lite was born with marks of materialism, hedonism, consumerism and individualism Undermuning others and reality of the progressive natural destruction show the existence of the so-called "culture of death" Sadly, injustice and violence have been globalized Amid these situations, love, justice and social responsibility have to be reflected seriously and reintroduced |
