Towards a new telecommunications industry quality standard

Pengarang : J.L. Pence
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Proceedings of the IEEE
Volume / Edisi : 81-2, FEBRUARY (No. 2)
Halaman : 166-180
Abstrak : The quality technologies developed by Bell Communications Research (Bellcore) and adopted by its owner/clients are described. At the core of the philosophy is the concept of supplier accountability for product and service quality. A brief history of quality in the former Bell System is presented. A supplier career path for today's telecommunications suppliers is shown, and the various characteristics that accompany each phase of the buyer/supplier relationship are described. Programs that enable buyers and suppliers to achieve a long-term cooperative relationship are presented chronologically according to the phases of the product life cycle. The customer/supplier quality process, which is the newest and most comprehensive of the quality technologies available in the telecommunications field, is summarized.<>

Barnabas: Sahabat Tidak Menghakimi

Pengarang : Leonardus Andhika, PR
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Rohani
Volume / Edisi : 72 (No. 06)
Halaman : 29-31
Abstrak : Don't judge a book by its cover (Jangan menilai buku dari sampulnya).

GaAs HBT's for microwave integrated circuits

Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Proceedings of the IEEE
Volume / Edisi : 81-12, DECEMBER (No. 12)
Halaman : 1762-1785
Abstrak : The status of the microwave GaAs heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) technology is reviewed. Microwave circuits for advanced military and commercial systems continue to increase their dependence on the performance, functionality, and cost of active components fabricated using solid-state technology. The performance advantages provided by GaAs HBT's, for several critical circuit applications, have stimulated a worldwide development activity. Progress in HBT device technology and microwave circuit applications has been extremely rapid because of the broad availability of III-V compound semiconductor epitaxial materials and prior experience with GaAs field-effect transistors (FET's) and monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMIC's). The great flexibility of HBT's in microwave circuits makes them prime candidates for applications in complex multifunctional microwave/digital IC's in next-generation systems.<>

GaAs HBT's for analog circuits

Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Proceedings of the IEEE
Volume / Edisi : 81-12, DECEMBER (No. 12)
Halaman : 1744-1761
Abstrak : Silicon bipolar integrated circuit (IC) technology has dominated the analog IC world for over two decades. As the push for wider bandwidths with higher precision continues, the emergence of GaAs HBT technology is destined to challenge silicon bipolar's domination at the high end of the analog market. This paper discusses the analog application areas best suited to GaAs HBT technology, points out its unique characteristics for analog circuits, describes the design issues for key analog building block circuits, and provides comparative examples of demonstrated state-of-the-art analog circuits. Finally, a projection of future direction in this application area is provided.<>

GaAs HBT's for high-speed digital integrated circuit applications

Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Proceedings of the IEEE
Volume / Edisi : 81-12, DECEMBER (No. 12)
Halaman : 1727-1743
Abstrak : GaAs HBT technology has emerged as one of the most important developments for digital circuits operating at clock frequencies of 100 MHz and higher. High-speed frequency dividers operating as high as 34.8 GHz and VLSI circuits as complex as 32-b CPU's operating at 200-MHz clock rate have been demonstrated. This paper reviews the role of GaAs HBT technologies for high-speed digital IC applications. The requirements for high-speed IC's and the characteristics of various HBT device structures and logic families are discussed. A summary of published results of the ultrahigh-speed circuits and the status of several high-speed VLSI circuits are presented to provide a guide for future developments.<>

GaAs-based heterojunction bipolar transistors for very high performance electronic circuits

Pengarang : P.M. Asbeck
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Proceedings of the IEEE
Volume / Edisi : 81-12, DECEMBER (No. 12)
Halaman : 1709-1726
Abstrak : This paper reviews the principles and status of AlGaAs/GaAs heterojunction bipolar transistor technology. Comparisons of this technology with Si bipolar transistor and GaAs field-effect transistor technologies are made. Epitaxial materials, fabrication processes, transistor DC and RF characteristics, and modeling of AlGaAs/GaAs HBT's are described. Key areas of HBT application are also highlighted.<>

Silicon-based optoelectronics

Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Proceedings of the IEEE
Volume / Edisi : 81-12, DECEMBER (No. 12)
Halaman : 1687-1706
Abstrak : The decade of the 1990's is an opportune time for scientists and engineers to create cost-effective silicon "superchips" that merge silicon photonics with advanced silicon electronics on a silicon substrate. We can expect significant electrooptical devices from Column IV materials (Si, Ge, C and Sn) for a host of applications. The best devices will use strained-layer epitaxy, doped heterostructures, and bandgap engineering of quantum-confined structures. This paper reviews Si-based photonic components and optoelectronic integration techniques, both hybrid and monolithic.<>

Asymptotic and hybrid techniques for electromagnetic scattering

Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Proceedings of the IEEE
Volume / Edisi : 81-12, DECEMBER (No. 12)
Halaman : 1658-1684
Abstrak : Asymptotic and hybrid methods are widely used to compute the Radar Cross Section (RCS) of objects that are large compared to the wavelength of the incident wave, and the objective of this paper is to present an overview of a number of these methods. The cornerstone of the asymptotic methods is the Geometrical Theory of Diffraction (GTD), which was originally introduced by J. B. Keller, and which represents a generalization of the classical Geometrical Optics (GO) by virtue of the inclusion of diffraction phenomena. After a presentation of the physical principles of GTD, we provide a description of its mathematical foundations. In the process of doing this we point out that GTD gives inaccurate results at caustics and light-shadow boundaries, and subsequently present a number of alternate approaches to dealing with these problems, viz., Uniform theories; Methods for caustics curves; Physical Theory of Diffraction; and Spectral Theory of Diffraction. The effect of coating perfectly conducting bodies with dielectric materials is discussed and hybrid methods, that combine the Method of Moments (MoM) with asymptotic techniques, are briefly reviewed. Finally, the application of GTD and related techniques is illustrated by considering some representative radar targets of practical interest.<>
