| Abstrak | : | This paper surveys the design of embedded computer systems, which use software running on programmable computers to implement system functions. Creating an embedded computer system which meets its performance, cost, and design time goals is a hardware-software co-design problem-the design of the hardware and software components influence each other. This paper emphasizes a historical approach to show the relationships between well-understood design problems and the as-yet unsolved problems in co-design. We describe the relationship between hardware and software architecture in the early stages of embedded system design. We describe analysis techniques for hardware and software relevant to the architectural choices required for hardware-software co-design. We also describe design and synthesis techniques for co-design and related problems. |

| Abstrak | : | Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as expert systems, fuzzy logic, and neural networks are expected to usher a new era in power electronics and motion control in the coming decades. Although these technologies have advanced significantly and have found wide applications, they have hardly touched the power electronics and machine drives area. The paper describes these AI tools and their application in the area of power electronics and motion control. The body of the paper is subdivided into three sections which describe, respectively, the principles and applications of expert systems, fuzzy logic, and neural networks. The theoretical portion of each topic is of direct relevance to the application of power electronics. The example applications in the paper are taken from the published literature. |

| Abstrak | : | This paper presents a users' perspective of simulation in power electronic and motion control systems. The rationale for simulation in research, education and in the design process, and the details of how simulation is carried out are discussed. Characteristics of a reliable simulation program are outlined and the hierarchical approach to simulation is stressed. Numerical solution issues in the simulation of "stiff" systems such as power electronics and motion control are discussed in general terms. A brief overview of the widely used simulation programs is provided along with the challenges in modeling the semiconductor devices. In conclusion, observations are made with respect to the future role and nature of computer simulations. |

| Abstrak | : | After the classification and a short review of the evolution, the different drive systems which became important in industrial applications are described. It is shown how motor, converter, and controls form a drive system. The specific characteristics of each system are emphasized in order to show which system is best suited for which kind of applications. Based on the development potential the paper also gives a projection for the future. The systems discussed include synchronous motors fed by externally commutated current source converters, induction motors fed by current source converters, cycloconverter fed synchronous motors, voltage source inverters, and slip power controlled drives. |

| Abstrak | : | The paper presents the state of the art of motion systems particularly emphasizing both estimation and identification of parameters and control variables of an electric-motor-driven motion system. In a modern electrical drive system, it is required to take not only the electrical aspect but also the mechanical phase into total system consideration. Improvement in electrical aspect needs a variety of information pertaining to electrical machines and power electronic circuits for improving AC variable-speed drives. Important techniques of identification or estimation of parameters and control variables in AC drives are explained. Such information includes machine parameters, flux, speed, position, and so on. Also, the paper shows that there is some theoretical limit of performance. For improvement of the mechanical phase, the disturbance torque is the most important variable to be identified. It is used in motion control systems, for example, in the feedback loop. Various applications are possible by modification of such a basic approach. As a conclusion, the paper shows that the total robustness is attained by integrating advances of control technique on the electrical aspect and the mechanical aspect. There are numerous variations of controller by possible combinations of these two aspects according to applications. |

| Abstrak | : | Motion control techniques have been developed to exploit the high efficiency and extremely fast dynamic response capabilities of permanent-magnet AC (PMAC) machines. Control techniques are reviewed separately for the two major classes of PMAC machines referred to as trapezoidal (i.e., brushless DC) and sinusoidal machines. While trapezoidal PMAC machine drives are distinguished by their controls simplicity and minimal sensor requirements, sinusoidal PMAC machine drives offer opportunities for extremely smooth torque production and extended high-speed operating ranges. Advanced PMAC machine control topics including sensor elimination techniques and robust servocontrol algorithms are reviewed, concluding with a discussion of PMAC machine drive application trends. |
