| Abstraksi Narasi | : | There is in the Church a real interest for the question of poverty and Christians often discuss the ``preferential option for the poor``. Aaat the collective as well as the personal level, for religious as much as for all Christians, was is the meaning of poverty? Not just a spiritual ideal, but an orientation given to people who remain sinners. As proposed by Christ, poverty is an ideal which must always be striven for and readjusted. Starting from poverty as a basic evangelical orientation, the author discusses the meaning of poverty (spiritual and effective) which is not to be confused with destitution or penury. The great misery of humankind is truly an interpellation which obliges us to reconsider our notion and our practice of poverty. The promotion of a just share of the goods of the earth is required from all. Such an exigency is at the heart of our practice of poverty as much as the fight for more justice. We thus face a paradox: we want to help people to get away from misery not in ordeer to make them rich but in ordeeer to make them able to share. The battle against misery and the fight for justice are meant to introduce people to the practice of effective poverty, expressed in simplicity of life and sharing. Such a simplicity could and should introduce us to an internal attitude, to poverty in spirit, based on filial trust in God and fraternal communion with others. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The model of clergy which we know in the Latin church is an ancient one. This does not mean that it is inevitably obsolete or necessarily immutable. However one has to know that this model is not universal and that it does not go back to the origins of the Church. Oriental churches, Catholic and Orthodox, follow other customs. Moreover when we invoke tradition, we should be aware that a canonical tradition does not have the same weight as a dogmatic tradition. The article considers more particularly the history and the law of celibracy (formulated at the Lateran council in 1139), tracing its beginnings to the ``eucharistic continence`` (increasingly difficult to practise when the Eucharist came to be celebrated daily). For the author, the motivation of the law of celibacy came from the desire to comply with ancient precepts of ritual purity. Today, in many countries we carry on thinking along these old patterns. The crisis is being administered rather than solved. There has never been any crisis in episcopal vocations, becaussse given the needs one chooses the best possible men. Mutatis mutandis, should it not be possible to do the same for priests? What is more important, to maintain ancient, and venerable, habits which are by no means absolute or to consideeer the urgent needs of the Christian community? To adjust the law of priestly celibacy does not mean to give away the ideal of Christian celibacy, founded on the example of Christ. Its values as a sign, complementary to the sign of Christian marriage, could on the contrary be reinforced. Soon or late, concludes the author, a former dean of the Theology Faculty at the Catholic University of Louvain, the law of celibacy will need to be revised in the line of a return to the ancient and ecumenical tradition. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The vocation crisis in Belgium (and more generally in westeern Countries) is serious: closure of religious houses, communiity regrouping, non replacement of retiring priests, etc. For the last thirty years the situation has been evolving but not all the faithhhful are aware of the impact of the new situation. While creating the National Vocation Centre in 1963, the Belgian Bishops entrusted it with a double mission: to implement a naational action aat the service of vocations and to help dioceses and religious congregations in their particular field. Drawing on his experience at the Vocation Centre for the last five years, the author underlines the following points: - Young people need a message of hope and will jjoin where hoope is present. We all need, as a Church, to be `` Witnesses of hope``. - Becausse of the Lord`s mission, we all need to be a ``praying people`` in view of the harvest. - We must keep in mind adults: families, lay people, priest, religious, teachers, catechists, catechists, educators, leaders,... - We should not work in isolation but draw up pastoral proposals together. The author hopes that a time shall come when the Christian people as a whole shall not perceive the National Vocation Centre as a service on the side, created for the survival of the institution, but as what it really is: an ecclesial service required by the very nature of the Church. present. We all need, as a Church, to be ``witnesses of hope``. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | In the wake of the Second Vatican Council, the Ritual for the Consecration of the Virgins has been revised, allowing to go back to the traditions of the first Christian centuries. Indeed, from the beginning of the Church and well before of the upsurge of the first religious orders, there were people who consecrated their life to Christ and we note the existence of a rite of consecration from the fourth century onwards. What is the meaning of such a commitment and of a solemn consecration, taken up publicly proclaimed by single women whose link with the Church is recognised by the local Bishop? To try to answer the question, the author speaks in terms of virgin, spouse and mother. The ``virgin`` accepts that Christ renders virgin not only her body but also her heart, will, relations hips. As a transcendant sign of the love of the Church for Christ her Spouse, the ``Spouse`` tries more and more everyday to be united with the will of the Risen Christ. Allowing the love of God to become thus present where He want, te ``mother`` opens herself to generating or reestablishing the life of grace. This first mission of the consecrated virgin is prayer. On the other hand, when God calls someone for concretation, He calls him/her to share his own self-communication. For this reason the consecrated virgin places herself at the servce of her brothers and sisters, ad of the Church, according to her charism and possibilities. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | To speak about religious life in religious education is important in ordeer to introoduce children to the meaning of Christian life and of the church, and also to promote among youth a right understanding of religious life. Religious education, through an appropriate pedagogy, must help discover consecrated life, its meaning and modalities, its diversity and function in the Church as well as its complementarity with other calls. The author gives in a first part a few general orientations. From a pedagogical viewpoint, he notes that the actual curriculum offers a few opportunities which can be made use of (Gospel texts, history of the Church, discovery of ordeers and congregations, reaading of personal testimonies, reflection on religious life). from a themaaatic perspectivve, three fundamental exigencies are underlined: to speak about religious llife not in terms of superiority, in terms of ``having`` (one does not ``have`` a vocation), nor in purely individual terms. In the second part, the author gives a few objectives for the primaaary and the secondary school (according to the three dimensions of knowledge, knowhow, being). The comments offered here are based on the school curriculum for French-speaking Belgium, but can easily be adapted to otheer contexts (chaplaincies, youth movements, parish catechesis). |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The short pericope of Matthew`s calling is well-known (Mt 9 and paar.). The article offers a detailed study of this familiaaar passage, first at the historical level (emphasizing the diachrony). We go from a synoptical analysis to the three stages of tradition, the life of Jesus at Capernaum on the lake shorees. In a second paart, the article considers the structural (synchronical) aspect taking the text as a whole, underlining significative oppositions and relations: the initial situation and the changes (a man is sitting at the tax office; Jesus calls him: the man gets up and follows Jesus). Initially the text mentioneed one publican. Many publicans and sinners were involved. Eventually Jesus speaks about all sinners in general. Whaat a contrast between pharisees and publicans, righteous and sinners, healthy and sick! The story is often found and used in homilies and catechism classes. It offers the opportunity to examine how Jesus the Healer calls and cures people and how Matthew becomes a witness. Through a concrete example, the article is a good introduction to the methods of modern biblical scholaaarship, making available tothe homilist and the catechist the insights of critical scholarship and structural analysis. A path that could be folowed for other Gospel passages, leading to a better undestanding of the ``quadriform`` Gospel. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Among the young who want to join the priesthood or the religious life, one can notice a great diversity according to the different regions of the world, be it among the various continents (Europe, America, Asia...) or between nations from the same continent (Taiwan, Vietnam,...). What are the underlying causes? In which measure does social environment and the status of the priest influence the decision of those who embrace religious life? In this complex world of vocation motivations, what are the reasons to be taken into account for the correct disceernment? Drawing on personal eperience, the author discusses the idea of vocation from a psychological viewpoint. He goes on the thereafter to study the presuppositions of the dcision to follow a vocation, on the basis of a twenty five year involvement in Vietnam and Taiwan. or the author, vocation discerment follows the pattern of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in the quest to seek and film God`s will. But the ``Gordian`` knot of such a discernment is rooted in the discovery of the real reasonsa which make the candidate ask to join religious life or the seminary. following the path traced by L.M. Rulla, s.j., the author seeks first to determine conscious motivations in order to continue with the more difficult stage of unconscius impulsions. This service of discerning vocation is an important step in the preparation of future religious or priests in the Church. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The aarticle starts from the meaning of the word "vocation`` in moral philosophy, where it refers to the very structure of the human person entrusted with ``responsibility`` because of the other`s distrress (``ethics of responsibility`` with Hans Jonas, ``Humanism of the other person`` in Emmanuel Levinas). It is against this background that the specificity of vocations in the Bible stads out: with the essssential reference to a cpmmunity-people of God, Church-called by a voice from outside. Religious vocation reminds the whole community that Christian life as such cannot be conceived outside a vocation, i.e. as answer to an initiative of Christ who is addressing his call through his own voice or through his witneses. Discovering the source of responsibility in the initiative of God, the people of God can become a source of hope for any human being. They make maniffest that God intervenes in the life of people, precisely in ordeer to help them in their call towards goodness and justiccee, a vocation which is always renewed by divine forgiveness. |
