Abstraksi Narasi : This article offers a few remarks and suggestions to really ``live Sunday as Christians``. Christians should not forget the maning of Sunday as the first day of the week (even Since Pius`XII liturgical reform allowing the Sunday mass to be said on Saturday evening), i.e. not only a free day like Saturday but a day of rest, a day consecrated to the Lord, a day for oneself, family and friends, an opportunity for visits and encounters. The importance of this weekly time to lay off should be preciously kept. The author evokes the link between the faith of the baptized, sacramental practice and belonging to the Church. A renewal of Sunday practice will come about through an angoing evangelization which places its trust in the Spirit, in the power of the Word and the abilities of its hearers. Does not liturgy close the communities on themselves? Today`s crisis in Sunday observance will only be overcome through a renewal of the missionary spirit of the Christian communities. Communition with other Christian communties is also an aspect underlined by the author. In spite of routine and against old habits, seasonal gathering can be an opportunity to revitalize languishing communities, especiallt at Christmas time or for the Easter Vigil. One becomes then consciious of the fact that our small communities are part of a greater, Catholic Church, dispersed throughout the world. Finally the relative lack of priests should not blur the lack of lay people who take their share of responsibilities. Churches in Africa and South America could show us the way, where Basic Ecclesial Communities live and Grow under the direct leadership of lay people. Today as much as in apostoic times, the Spirit calls forth the charisma needed in the communnity. The liturqy issuedfrom Vatican II offers elements of Sunday practices which have not yet sufficiently been taken into consideration.

Only the christians of the area are capable of giving a true answer to this question...

Abstraksi Narasi : This introductory article is an invitation to go back to the Scriptures, to rediscover the biblical inspiration of our Sunday observance. In this book of Deuteronomy, the Sabbath is the joyful celebration of god`s liberative action. For the Christians, t is the celebration of the definitive liberation brought by Jesus` Resurrection. The Sabbath is at the heart of the decalogue (Dt 5: 12-15), part of the joyful celebration of God`s liberation. All through the bible, Old and New Testament alike, resounds this joyful hymn. The chosen people intoned it first when the Lord delivered them from slavery. Since then, throughthout history, once a week on the Sabbath day, they keep memory of this liberation. Israel is thus invited to set free his servants and the migrants ``within the gates`` in order to asociate them in the gladness of the nation. Centuries later, on Easter morning, the disciples of Jesus sing the same canticle, enriched now by the faith in the Resurrection. They sing the victory over death given them in the Risen Lord. Ever since the Christian community takes up the same hymn when they break the bread in His name and share their goods with their deprived brethren. To celebrate Sunday today, should not Christians first of all strengthen their faith in the Resurrecction of the Lord? At the same time, is it also urgent to restore closer netwoks i our Churches, to develop a more fraternal ``as well as you`` ( cf Dt 5,14). The Eucharistic celebration is most meaningful in a living local community, a clear sign that the Risen Christis truly at work in the concrete events of history.

Abstraksi Narasi : Countless rites fill our lives, even in our modern secularized society. Rites are part of a mysterious side of human reality. They appear and subsist resiliently, because they ful fill important, even essential, functions in the life of the idividual and the community. This article examines the positive functions of ritual and how it can be used on the pedagogical level. seven main functions are underlined: - Ritual allows and favours integration into a human order of what would otherwise remain external, in the cosmic, biological or social sphere, and thus be a source of anxiety. - Ritual blazes a trail for human life by orchestrating and socializing the great moments of passage. - By establising links with the past and the future, rites speak of the strength and permanence of the group. - Ritual allow people to cope with the anxiety inherent to human eistence and has the role of checking, restraining, structuring. - Ritual makes the expression of feeling such as love and hate, joy and sadness, hope and distress, forgiveness and revenge... easier, while setting limits not to go beyond. - Reaching a deeper level of expression and communication, the rites speak to the unconscious by using the language of symbols; they touch all aspect of human life and being, body, soul and spirit, collectively and individually. - Rites give life meaning and sense of direstion. Ritual can of course be oppressive, stifling, expression of neurosis but, through repetition and onderliness, ritual is also an important element of human life: You know where to go and where to find support, you are not obliged to invent eveything anew. Rites fulfill a important pedagogical function.

Abstraksi Narasi : Week after week, the priest in charge of a parish church or of a public chapel has to prepare the homily for the Sunday eucharist. It mcan be a joy and an opportunity but also a duty to peform or just routine work. Fifty two times a year, plus the feastdays, one can indeed address the same assembly of the faithful (even taking into account social mobility) with that secret sympathy of a common faith ( in spite of crises) and draw from a liturgical cycle which covers the whole Gospel every year. What more could you dream of for ongoing formation? The few remarks offered by the author, a former director of the Lumen Vitae review (1968-82), are an encouragement to grasp such an opportunity. The autho takes support from two passages of Luke`s Goepel: Jesus preaching at the Nazareth synagogue, possibly the shortest homily, (Lk 4, 21) and what Jesus told the disicples on the road to Emmaus, a longer text (Lk 24: 25-27). In the Sunday Eucharistic celebration, the author notes in conclusion, the homily is-together with the prayer of the faithful-something always new, something original, different each sunday and different from one place to another. The summit of the celebration remains the proclamation of the Word and the homily is but part of the cult rendered by the asembly, but it contributes to the vitality of the community. Sunday practice receives support from a good homily.

Abstraksi Narasi : The article offers a few catechetical suggestions for chi9ldren (aged 10 to 12). First, know what Sunday means to them (note down the first five words coming to mind). Then tell the story of Sunday and the meaning of the word (the Resurrection of Jesus; the first day of the week; how the disciples gather for the Breaking of the Bread, on the day of the Lord). Together seek what could be done so that Sunday be really ``the day of the Lord``. Help to discover the liturgical colours and their symbolism. With the children make one`s own Sunday Missal. To conclude the author insists that Sunday be linked with the Resurrection, that catechists be aware of the Vocabulary and the way they speak about Sunday, how Sundays re-echo throughout daily life, and underlines the importance of giving a place to the children in the Sunday celebrations.

Abstraksi Narasi : In Belgium, . Such is the invitation of the Belgian Bishops. To propose a ``year devoted to Sunday`` without nostalgia and with realism presupposes a time of analysis. The social sciences help to know the situation and to understand the changes in Sunday habits and the way this affects Christians as well as the general population. Pastors will fains invaluable help in a volume beiong prepared, Le dimanche, jour de Dieu, jour de l`homme, in seven parts:analyzing the situation, religious origins, the Sunday obligation (the Eucharist and a day of rest), Sunday celebration and Christian life, theological and pastoral reflections, the problem of work, catechetical aspects (plus a few appendices; Sunday in painting, cinema andliterature, testimonies, bibliography). The article is an introduction to and a commentary of the preparatory working document of the Bishop`s Conference, "Sunday: A Time for God, A Time for people``, concerned with the meaning of Sunday, the way a celebrating and of taking time off. Sunday is truly a time for God and for people, for the individual and society, for the Christian community and the others, believers or not. To take Sunday as a pastoral focus is topical, in Belgium and other places. Everywhere pastoral concerns can centre on Sunday practices.

Abstraksi Narasi : Sunday isnot what it used to be anymore!veryone knows it. The article, written from a sociological viewpoint, deals with the changes in sunday habits, the meaning they carry, and the signs by which this is expressed. The author, a professor of sociology at Louvain University, recalls the decline in Church attendance, but reserves the usual question: ``Why did so many people go to Church before? ``Without trying to be exhaustive she offers a few reflections on the fluidity of social references and roles, and their diversty: we thus get a kaleidoscopic view of Sunday in the 90`s (changes in clothing, shopping habits, food, sports, leisure, loneliness, etc). Marks are shifting and getting blurred, and so is the meaning of Sunday. The Church does not remain outside of, or indifferent to global social changes. Without nostalgia or accusation, the author evokes the interplay between Church prescriptions and practices and general social change. The Church adapted to the new situation but has herself contributed, willingly or uncounsciouly, to the global transformation.

Abstraksi Narasi : In April 1991, the European Episcopal Conferences Council organised a symposium to examine the teaching of Catholic religion in State schools and to draw guidelines for the future. This meeting was timely considering the moves towards European unity, recent upheavals in Eastern Europe and the new concordat between the Holy See and the Italian government. First the participants heard several addresses folowed by a question time. Dr Ilger (Germany) drew a panoramic sketch of the situation; Prof Feliciani (Italy) dealt with the legal basis and the institutional aspects; Prof M. del Campo Quilarte (Spain) gave an address on the nature, goals and content of religion teaching in State schools, while Fr. J. charytanski (Poland) spoke about the situation in central Europe. The second part of the Symposium was devoted to the writing of conclusions and to drawing out the main points of the lectures and discourses as well as drafting recommendations for the future.
