Abstraksi Narasi : How to square the traditional doctrine on original sin with modern cosmology and palaeontology? How to understand and explain the Genesis story (Gen 2-3) and interpret the Epistle to the Romans and specially the key passage of 5: 12-15? Such is the issue faced by the article. The author first recalls the doctrine found in pre-Vatican II catechisms and considers the questions raised by this doctrine in regard to modern science. Difficulties can be overcome by distinguishing the meaning of dogmatic formulas-i.e. the teaching intention of the Church-and the historical element in their enunciation and by distinction is applied to the Genesis story and prevents us from directly linking Adam and the hominid known by the scientific approach. The ``sin of the origins" spoken about in the Bible and by theology is clearly not on the same level as the first wanderings of the hardly formed moral conscience of a two-legged mammal. Genesis speaks about humankid, symbolised in Adam, and tells us that man is created, free and responsible, for life; that death and evil are not the result of a blind destiny; that the sin of man will not stop the gift of God. Such are the reflexions of the Yahvist author who, in faith, links together life and death, freedom and hindrances. The article moreover sheds light on the Pauline doctrine concerning salvation in Jesus Christ by refering to the historical Jesus as portrayed in the Synoptic Gospels. Jesus went to the poor and the marginalised, he was in solidarity with the publicans and sinners, exemplifying in his person the mission of the Church: to take up the cause of the poor and the humble around us. In this we can we understand and speak about salvation: at the example of Jesus Christ, together with others, the Christian is working for the Kingdom of God, striving so that every man and every women may live in full respect and dignity, according to ``the image of God``.

Abstraksi Narasi : What happens to parents and friends who have left us? What shall we become after death? These questions concern all of us and have been asked to young people from a Catholic school with many immigrant (mainly of Muslim tradition)children. Young people are interested by the question of after life. They are also confronted by the presentation of these themes in the mass media and the silence of catechesis on the same topcs. The article considers successively their answers about death and beyond, heaven, purgatoy, and finally about hell. For each question, a short analysis is given and suggestions fo catechesis. Heaven, purgatory and hell say something about God about humankind as much as about the invisible universe and human solidarty. Youth`s ideas concerning life and after death reflect a great vacuum, a christological vacuum. Without Christ, God and man are far away from one another and, outside a christological framework, the Christian heaven is just a chaotic sea of desires. In a time when new mystical trends and new religious movements c0ome back in strength, Christian catechesis must be more attentive to these topics, not just in a defesive manner but in order to invigorate Christian commitment and hope.

Faut-il Encore Parler de la Trinite?

Abstraksi Narasi : Even if it requires care and precision, a letter allows more freedom of expression. It also invites a response. In the form of a letter (written to a friend, a catechist living Medellin, Colombia), the article first sizes the difficulties up, underlining the prevalent ignorance and incomprehension as well as the gap between doctrine and beliefs. Dogmatic formulas about the Trinity have been emtied of their experince content. And since the time of the Enlightenment, resourse to the nation of ``mystery`` as only increased the abstraction process. It is therefore essential to start from the other end, i.e.to come back to the lived dimension which led the Christian of the first centuries to buid up the doctrine of the Trinity. Placing the emphasis on the experience of the Holy Spirit in the Scriptures, the author traces a path for an acceptable catechesis of the Holy Spiit and he invites the Christian to recover the Breath. He is thus led to show that the modern idea of ``person`` is inadequate when applied to the Spirit. He ends up by nothing that, regarding the trinitarian dimension of our faith, the relative proverty of some affirmations could at times be legitimised if we remember, with Karl Rahner, that the ``economical`` Trinnity (god in his relationship to humankind) is the ``immanent`` Trinity (God in himself).

Abstraksi Narasi : To say the least, confession is not very popular and is a forgotten theme in religious education. In truth, the sacrament has had a chequered history and has often been badly disfigured. The article gives a few pointers towards rediscovering the place and value of this sacrament. The author starts with a reflexion on the Church as first budding of the Kingdom and he underlines the importance of rituals and symbolic gestures in human life. He invites us to dare to speak about sin, to welcome the forgiveness of God and to renew relations with one`s brothers and sisters. The article also considers a few classical questions and objections (Why to confess to a priest?; I did`nt commit great sins; I shall fall again) and suggests, in conclusion, that we be more inventive in the celebration of the sacrament, specially in linking individual confession and community celebration.

Abstraksi Narasi : The article offers three exemples of pastoral work from Catholic schools in the Tournai diocese. * The first experience relates how, from 1982 onwards, the annual retreat in a school of nursing was replaced by active participation in the diocesan pilgrimage to Loundes, with the necessary preparation and follow-up. * The second exemple describes how the students in a technical school are involved and interested in a development project in Rwanda with the concominant awakening of solidarity, sense of responsibility and collaboration of staff and students alike. * The third testimony showa what has been done in a secondary school to prepare Easter and how boys and girls have gradually built their wn project from two questions: What do we seek? What makes us live? In the light of these testimonies and of other experiences, the author offers some comments: imagination and creativity are always required; educators should be encouraged to do team work; a priori young people must be trusted; youth has to learn to listen to and to learn from others in order to enlarge its horizons; follow-up is crucial but too easily forgotten; real questions come from experience, contact with reality; finally young people bring much to those who accompany them: are we not all engaged in the same human adventure!

Abstraksi Narasi : Hungarian youth has reached a dead end, official reports proclaim, and many young people themselves say so in spite of the recent political turn. However sociologist Istvan Kamaras believes it is more a tunnel. We just have to consider the small communities in serch of roots, values, friendship, God or look at the small groups discussing political issues, new pedagogical experiences... Yes, a new spirit of freedom, openness, creativity is at work. For gymnasium teacher Gyorgy domokos, during forty years people have been deprived of ideals such as nation, God, love and have been taught to forget about traditions, order, family. Today Hungarian youth is caught up in materialsm but they are also looking for something els, something to hope for: human relationships, a real community, belief in God. For young Hungarians, life is not a long calm river, says history professor Johanna Nemeth. They are looking for a new self-image. But where to find this? They are searching for new models. But where are they? What will eventually prevail, the power of money or the strange fragility of love?

Abstraksi Narasi : Young people in our countries present a new challenge similar to that faced by Paul in Corinth and by Vincent Lebbe in Tien-Tsin. Nothing the divorce between and the general ethos of Christian communities the various articles in this issue invite the readers to be attentive to cultural changes and to undertake an inculturation process which integrate, inter alia, the values of freedom to which young people are specially sensitive. The Church needs catechists who are like >.

Les Zones d`Education Prioritaires

Abstraksi Narasi : The article describes the project of the . Zones d`Education Prioriaires were established in France in 1981, but they are also found in other countries. Their aims is to fight social inequalities at school level. The article describes a similar project in French speaking Belgium. In some areas, schools which receive youth from disadvantaged families accumulate failures. One cannot automatically conclude that the quality of teaching is lower or tha the children are less clever. The basic resources and social conditions are simply not available and the gap between the social environment and the school teaching is too broad. Basically the project is an attempt to take into account the special needs of these schools by creating synergies beteween the school and the social surroundings in order to implement a consistant project; secondly, in the school itself, to promote diversification of training methods and educational practices. The article has something of a manifesto rather than of a description for the experiment is still at an early stage. The project certainly requires a change od mind and has definitely something to do with the Gospel.

Les Jeunes Polonais Devant Les Changements Actuels

Abstraksi Narasi : It is not easy to describe the young generation of Poland, i.e. those who have limited in the difficult years of the state of emergency from 1981 till 1989, with the fear to express onself, the depreciation of work, the general apathy and all pervasive pessimism. The article however tries to reflect the opinion of young people from various state schools, one catholic school and a few technical schools of silesia (South-West Poland). What are the main questions and problems? Young people vigourously attack adults about family values, honesty, human relationships, life models. When questioned about their expectations in life, the answers touch upon four main areas: school, church, culture, future. The school comes first and any change should start with education and a reform of the programmes. The Church is often perceived as a shelter-specially in youth groups like OASIS or during the pilgrimages to Czestochowa- but more and more criticism is being voiced. There is a a tremendous need for cultural life worth the name and entertainment opportunities are practically inexistant or out of reach for financial reasons. Yet possibilities for the future are appearing and there is need to keep and to peomote hope. The task of educators, says a concluding quation, is to convince young people that the situation is not hopeless. Gospel values shall never be autmoded and can still be a source of inspiration.

Les Jeunes Dans l`Espagne d`Aujourd`hui

Abstraksi Narasi : "Jovenes Espanoles 1989" is the thid sociological report sponsored by the Santa Maria Foundation. It is based on a survey among 4548 young Spaniards of both sexes, aged 15 to 24. The article presents the main conclusions of this report and underlines its more significant aspects. Seven general trends are first noticed; more conformism; greater dichotomy between public and private life; lack of general references; decrease in the number of women working at home; individualistic ethos; more frequent but less deep relationships; demand for greater freedom. In fact these tendencies simply reflect what is happening in Spanish society at large. From a set of 38 propositions, a typology of youth is drawn, out of which 8 groups emerge, more or less equal in number but not in importance. Concerning family life, the survey indicates a fundamental lack of conflict, even if opinions diverge inside the family. The stability of the family unit is on the increease and one notices, concerning rights and duties, a greater symmetry between parents and children. Rules of behaviour and good manners occupy a prominent place. One records a general disinterest towards political life. On average, young people tend more to the left than to the right, but there is a thrust towards the right, especially among men. In what concerns religious matters, the process of secularization s coming to an end among the boys while the place of women in the Church raises question among the girls. There is definitely a sociological profile of the young Catholic and the religious factor is very important in explaining behaviour and values.
