Abstraksi Narasi : Children always wonder and ask questions. But what they see or read TV serials, comics, etc.-does not answer the basic questions about good and evil, life and death, old age and after-life, sexual reality and loneliness, the need to grow of the fear of being left alone, violence and forgiveness, God and the devil,... Yet the adult must help the child to put some coherence in the tumult of this thoughts and feelings. What can he offer him? Fairly tales, the author believes, can speak to the child and be understood by him. They can play a role in faith awakening also. Fr. Bonjour has used fairly tales (mainly by the Grimm brothers) during the monthly catechism class. Fairly tales) but on balace, and after experience, the result is positive. With adult supervision, the children can quickly make the link between the tales and their own life. They also learn to hear the Word of God and to see how it sheds light on their experience.

Abstraksi Narasi : Anyone who has taken part in a creative workshop and produced an artistic work remembers it. We need to be persuaded that anyone can produce something with his/her hands. No special gift is neede and just a few elementary tips and guidelines for drawing, modelling and the use of raw material should be given. But how rewarding is the experience! Moreover, from the catechetical point of view, a creative workshop is important. Inevitably when they take part in a workshop with religious themes, the participants, individually or in group, express something about Christian faith, their own life and the linnk between them. The techniques are many and vary according to the skill, the wishes, or the number of participants (clay, ceramic, embossed metal, water-colour, gouache, crayon, collage, etc). A good way to stimlulate the participants is to have them take part in the organized by the author and which will take place for the twentieth time in 1990 with the theme, . Seven short testimonies, by young participants and teachers, complete the article.

Abstraksi Narasi : As a religious education teacher for the last fourteen years in a pluricultural and multireligious environment, the author would like to share the best of her experience: young people value what they have to fight for, they hold on to what they have learned by themselves or discovered in an enjoyable atmosphere and in a trusful relationship; they discover their own personality and richness when they are led to assume responsibilities; thay open up with creativeness and mutual respect; their faith receives confirmation when, through the gentle working of the Holy spirit, they acquire the audacity to speak up and undergo confrontation. dealing with adolescents (15-18 yrs) for whom reading, and especially of the Bible, means boredom and weariness has forced Chantal van der Plancke to build up a pluridimensional pedagogy where the content is communicated through acting out rather than reading or listening. Prepared scripts are more accurate and less time consuming but she prefers student-created activities. In this way, young and adults create their own role and are actively involved. several techniques are available and have been used: shadow plays which require no special skills or props and are excellent for personal internalization; student-created sketches where everything is said in a few minutes throught a single scene and which can provide a good link with real life situations and questions; dramas and plays which require much more preparation and work but are highly rewading. The author has also worked out and put on stage a one hour show based on the of the Belgian Bishops. It was very well received by the audience (and it was a wonderful experience for the actors) because the youth-Christians, Muslims, unbelievers-could be true, be themselves.

Abstraksi Narasi : In the parish church of Glabais (Brabant), coloured glass windows illustrate Bible stories taken from the Sunday lectionary. The Church becomes a place where everything speaks about Jesus christ, a place where Christians discover and learn a theology of beauty. It is ideal for catechetical use with the children. After a moment of prayer, the children are led to contemplate a Gospel scene, in complete silence. Then everyone is invited to pinpoint a detail, a colour,...Links are made between the picture and the biblical text. After about twenty minutes, one goes in the next room. There the Bible is opened and every child reads alound and in turn one verse from the next. For thirty minutes, the teacher refers to the windows and makes the link between text and image. Afterwards, one again in complete silence, each child should draw the scene on a big sheet of paper, while the teacher goes from one to another (ten minutes). The class ends with a prayerful reading of a psalm, often the responsorial psalm of the sunday lectionary. Besides the window panes, the parish has also at its disposal 190 tapestries, which are exposed during the Sunday Eucharist, in full view at the pulpit where the Word is proclaimed. In this way, a unified parish catechesis is gradually developed.

Abstraksi Narasi : Pathways of Faith is a service centre which has been established in downtown Montreal in 1984. Its purpose is to extend a welcoming hand to Christians who have distanced themselves from the Church. Estranged and non-practicing Catholics find there a place where they can discuss, share their questions (especially divorced catholics) and rediscover prayer. In a modest way, Pathways of Faith wants to contribute to the new evangelization, taking into account the reality of modern-day society and it search for spiritual values. (The article has been published in English in the Quarterly Review Compass, Toronto, May 1989).

Abstraksi Narasi : For a few years, Danielle Yannart followed the existential method of teaching religion but she slowly came to the realization that there were problems: a gap remains between faith and life, initiation into prayer is superficial, Jesus is little known... From 1980 onwards, she started on anew path, paying more attention to the child`s mentality, and consequently to two great pedagogical imperatives. In order to allow children to progress in the language of faith they must get the opportunity to express themselves as much as possible. Secondly, it is by encouraging the children to wonder, to ask questions, to solve problems that one encourages true learning. She also resolved to give much more place to the Bible. The Biblical text is the real point of departure. It should be presented with different techniques, visual aids, taking account of the liturgical year. In the Bible, one sees Jesus and the disciples in prayer. It is a good opportunity to teach the children to pray in the class room. Experience shows that to start from the Bible is surely not forgetting the daily life. Such a Biblical catechesis is equallly existential, involving the whole of the child`s being and acting.

Abstraksi Narasi : To teach religion in a technical school would appear to many as a challenge. What are the characteristics of the younsters who come to study there. They are different in life-style and behaviour, with a frame of mind turned towards the practical aspects of life, not less clever but with a different kind of intelligence. Very much in need of attention and care, they have to listened to and volarized by the adults. God often appears to them as a supernatural, indefinite power. Some consequences follow for religious education: 1. The teacher must create the conditions for a good relationship; 2. He must help them to see the world and the persons around with another look and to discover the symbolic dimension of human life; 3. Also to go beyond Deism and to meet God as someone with whom I can have a relationship, who creates and respects human freedom; 4. To discover that religion is different from moralism, yet is not something abstract and away from their life. a few comments which should be expounded and are valid for any religious education.

Methodes et Enjeux Catechetiques

Abstraksi Narasi : The article first examines the central place of methodology in catechesis. Often people tend to oppose method and content, yet there can be no question of chosing one or the other. Both must be taken into account. But what is meant by method? We can speak of four different aspects: 1. certain tools and techniques 2. an orderly arangement (e.g. the see, judge, act method) 3. a systematic plan or procedure (e.g. the old catechism) 4. a global catechetical programme, including its different stages (information, interpretation,...). In nos 3 and 4, it is clearly impossible to separate method from content. Further a specifically catechetical approach is esentially methodological. Cathecesis is not just a tool designed to convey a content. An important place has to be given to programming, i.e. that complex process which will allow a reflection on, and a reorganisation of, the programme to suit the circumstances and the people concerned. There are different methodological choices, but a few points cannot be bypassed: the importance of experience, community, group, variiety of language, active particcipation, creative pedagogy, the priority given to the whole person. It is only after these aspects have been taken into account that one can give non-exclusive preference either to Christian expperience or to expressions of faith.

Methodes Catechetiques en Amerique Latine

Abstraksi Narasi : Catechetical methods in Latin America are born, in great part, from contacts between the Word of God and the cry of a people living in misery and oppression. These methods are more than the teaching of a text (catechism) or a story (sacred history); they spring out of an actual historical situation. In such a context, content and method can not be separated as could be done for a liquid and its contaner. Content is expressed in a method and is shaped by it. The method conditions and, in part, determines the mesage. We must do away with the idea of a , and realize that a method is never . A few characteristics follow from this recognition. The method should give the main role to the people catechized. In the plan of God, men and women are to become the protagonists of their own history. This astive approach is important in a context of inculturation. In Latin America, some people regret what they call methods which are contaminated by . But anymethds is affected by an ideological outlook. Which are th methods closer to the project of Jesus, and the means to be faithful to the Kingdom he proclaimed?

La Transformation de Notre Culture et la Communication de la Foi

Abstraksi Narasi : A Few Trends in German-speaking Nations. There are no catechetical methods without theological options. Today, two main trends are present: the ontological approach whch puts the emphasis on content more than on method and the communication approach where there is a strong relation between the act of faith, the content of faith, the communication of faith. In German speaking Europe, many people prefer the second approach. Typical of the German situation is the fact that religious education is part of the school curriculum in State schools. However in a pluralist society, the school is no more a specific place for catechesis. Consequently a few questions are raised. 1. What is the context of catechesis (family, kindergarten, school, youth movement, university, parish community,...)? 2. What is the communication pattern of catechesis, considering the diversity of roles: teachers and pupils, parents ad children, group leaders and participants, etc, and also the inequality of the educational relaionship. 3. Admist a great diversity of teaching aids and techniques (craft, dialogue, singing,...), the author underlines the , i.e. sharing the Word but as reflected in one`s experience. He is however infavour of a variety religious education, it is because of a greater crisis (perhaps) in the Church. New questions require a new style of communication. The catechist cannot avoid this. It is also a new opportunity.
