| Abstraksi Narasi | : | At first sight, many sayings of Jesus concerning the family are surprising. Jesus seems even to belittle the family. But we have to push further. From Jesus` relationship with his family, a few points come out. Jesus shows freedom and independance from his family where he meets with occasional misunderstanding and unbelief concerning his mission. His real family is not made of blood relations but consist of those who listen to God`s word and keep it. Given the message of God`s Kingdom and its urgency, the family has a relative value, which can even become a countervalue if it stands in the way of the demands of the Kingdom. Jesus also gives a more radical orientation to the teaching about the family with regard to the respect given to parents and the refusal of divoce. He finally shows an attitude of complete mercy and forgiveness, as displayed in the story of the sinful woman. Jesus did not propose or establish a new model for the family. When he speaks about the family it is on the basis of the existing Jewish model but he has shown and pushed further the demands of that model as well as proposing an attitude that replaces condemnation and judgement with pardon and anew dynamism. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | From psychology we know the importance of all that happens during early childhood. This period leaves its mark on the child for life, at the religious level also. A decisive moment for faith awakenng is when the small child receives from the parents the first elements of religious education. Awakening to life and awakening to faith go side by side. It is by being brought up in and by living the faith of the parents that the child becomes conscious of another reality and is thus led to encounter God. The role of the parents is irreplaceable. In this process the children will of course ask questions which will often leave the parents puzzled and invite them to deepen their own faith. The parents need to be helped by other parents (especially if there are disagreements among them) and the grand-parents play an important part. If Jesus means something for the parents, he will also become some one for the children. Religious education can not be done outside a family context, for the benefit of the children... and of the whole family. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This article is intented to help Christian parents, as well as priests and catechists, to rediscover in the Jewish environment of Jesus the roots of a Christian domestic liturgy. For the author, to follow Jesus Christ is to enter into twofold history: of his people and of his Church. As some official docments explain, there is a fundamental continuity, even a mysteirous communion, between the jewish spirituality, with its feasts and celebrations, and the spirituality of the Gospel in the liturgy of the Chhurch. We can experience and live this basic link in our homes. The family table is considered as an altar and the house is a privileged place where the children encounter the Living God. The family can become the witness of a living tradition and take part in the sanctification of places and time. Parents and educators are invited to express the presence of God at home, in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, in communion with his Church. In this way, the can share in the ministry of evangelization. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | We are witnessing a profound trasforamation of the Western family. A few years ago, in Lumen Vitae, the author wrote a prospective evaluation. What is the situation today? Available data show a few trends: less marriages are celebrates today than twenty years ago, cohabitation is on the increase, the number of births out of wedlock is growing, the birth rateis decreasing sharply, abortion is more and more common, there is a general rise in the divorce rate as well s in the number of single-parent families. Is the very existence of the family threatened? Not all the changes observed are purely negative nor exceedingly preoccupying. New family patterns are emerging with a greater emphasis on the freedom of the partners and equality of aspirations. A few questions are raised concerning these new patterns: what constitutes a family in Western society? Is not equality between man and woman in practice detrimental to women? What is the impact of increased life-expectancy on married life? Inevitably families are affected by the changes in our society for better and for worse. Some social reorganisation will have to be looked for because our contemporaries expect a lot from the family. Too much perhaps! |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | A working class suburb of Liege: the economic situation has gradually deteriorated, slums are on the increase, immigrant families are settling down, many young people are unemployed. In such a situation, what should be done for the religiious education of the chhildren of the area? We wanted to bring the children to live as Christians, the authors say, in sharing the life of believing community and we are more and more convinced that catechesis has to be done in the midst of a community. We therefore decided to link catechesis to the Sunday Eucharistic assembly... and we were led to change the style of our Celebrations: welcome of the people, prayer of the faithful, Gospel sharing, etc. Of course this Sunday Eucharist catechesis in not enough, but we have noticed changes in the children`s attitudes: they come to understand gradually what is a Christian community. Tomorrow, we hope, the same children will be adult members of our community. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | To be a committed Christian has never been easy and the is rea. Today, it implies the will to create new ways of life that make possible new relations to oneself, to others, to God. The author does not consider this involvement in terms of action but in terms of , which is broader and includes norms and values. The great challenge of our time is to build Christian communities which could be powerful and lively enpugh, without getting institutionalised, to generated to make the changes implied by the grace. In a post-modern society, where universal values of evangelical life forms must become a source ofmeaning, the tries to do precisely this: a form of life which makes credible the stake of , while at the same time living in ordinary profesional life conditions. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | In our society, there is a wide gap between the (the great society, society as a complex, institutionalised strucutre) and the (the place for daily life, personal relations, frienship and interaction). The result has been for youth the rejection of the institution, apoor education in faith and the lack of religious socialisation. Youth like to meet their peers at definite times ann places, outside the social system. In these groups, direct relations, personal contact and affectivity play a great role. What is new is the amount of time spent in those groups ( be it in a pub, asports club, a local radio, a parish group, etc). Often big institutions, including the Church, are simply left aside, even by Christian groups. We must remain attentive to what the young are looking for in those groups and find out how the groups can become an opportunity to encounter Christ in truth. If we are careful, the small groups can become a place of genuine ecclesial experience and give a sense of belonging to the Church. If many young people today go away from the Church, is it not because there has not been any Gospel proclamation in their life milieux? The Church that speaks to the young and within which they recognize themselves is a Church-network of differentiated communities where they perceive the relevance and challenge of the Gospel. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | We speak of community for a great variiety of situations: family, parish, school, confraternity, Third Order, team, congregration, etc. All these groups are not in the same manner. This variety is traditional and benefical but one has to be attentive to the various characteristics of each community. It is more a question of throwing a Christian light on life events or crucial issues, of organising time for interiority and spiritual life. It is good to be aware of some obtacles: disunity, discord, conflicts; lack of formation and competence, theological and human; a certain indefference or weariness in regard to religious issues. Communities however can help their members to grow, also in the catechetical field, but under some conditions: if creative freedom is promoted; if a true community spirit prevails and everyone feels concerned; if ongoing formation is offered and not taken for granted or stopped; if prayer is integrated more generally. Many questions remain but the Spirit speaks trough different channels. Also through the various communities. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The buiding of Small Christian Communities has been a pastoral priority of the Churches in East Africa for the past twelve years. This article tries to assess the progress of those communities and to examine their future. Taking into account the ideals on paper (in the AMECEA documents) and the reality on the ground, the author examines the lessons that the experience of building Basic Ecclesial Communities in Latin America can offer the East African experience. The author suggests that SCCs can draw inspiration from the BECs in three ways: 1/ in terms of how to begin through a real preparation and formation of all the peole; / in the adaption of a pastoral methodology like that sensitises and motivates the people, and the use of an integrated approach to the Bible that helps them to understand, celebrate and witness to their faith in a full manner; 3/ a more balanced and integrated ecclesiological perspective that not only emphasies communion but also underlines service. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Evangelization in and through the community has a distinctive quality, not found if done through external agents. Wherever, as in Latin America, basic Christian communities (BCC) become the ordinary way to be the Church, catechesis is radically changed in form and contents. From the 70s onward, everywhere in Africa, the conviction is spreading that the future of the Church is full of promise if pastoral priority is given to the BCCs: a real community where members know and accept one another, forming the church present and active, gathering the poor, the needly, in their concrete life situation. In those communities, ministry is not the privilege and/or duty of the priests and their traditional helpers (religious, catechists), neither is catechesis the work of the priest-in-charge but of the community. However the real question is not just transmission of theoretical knowledge but a comlete change of values and outlook. One has to take into account the variety of situations (urban middle class touched by Western modernity, or peasantry in traditional village areas). Yet in every situation the Christian community must become , image of the new world which God, with our help, is buiding already now. |
