| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Traditionally, Christian tradition has acknowledged the existence of three stages in the spiritual life, namely purgation, illumination and union. Despite its simplistic nature and a conception of the spiritual life that is too linear, the model subsides up to our day. But over the past fifty years, psychologists have come forward with new models. They have shown that the human person develops over life and that stages of development can be described, whether it be intellectual capacities (Piaget), moral judgment (Kohlberg), development of the self (Kegan), religious judgement (Oser) or even faith development (Fowler). Those models have become the operating paradigm for spiritual life in the eyes of many. It is too early to have a clear glimpse of what it will look like when the old tradition and the new perspectives will have really met and borne fruit for both the pastoral and catechetical activity of the Church. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Catechesis today relies on women and men who are ready to give a hand and to build up with others living community. This article begins with a few concrete experiences before describing some basic spiritual attitudes which can help catechists in their task : to recognize that life is fragmentary; to live without forgetting human limits; to be receptive and open to experience. In order not to be overwhelmed by too great a pressure, these volunteer catechists need to be accompanied. They should experience what is described in the ords of Psalm 18 - ``You offer me a wide place for my steps under me``. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The tyranny of perfection haunts modernity. The least suffering or the smallest frustration assumes an immeasurable dimension. Nowadays, we should perhaps discover anew something contrary to common beliefs, i.e. truth is related to weakness. From the heart of acknowledged weakness, during a process of a search for truth, arises the dawn of latent elements at the dept of one`s being. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | In the Catholic Church, spirituality has taken as model the spirituality of religious life. The article discusses new forms of spirituality which develop outside Church structures and do not refer to God. Two great mystical figures are presented : Simone Weil and Etty Hillesum. These two figures can throw light on the spiritual quest of our contemporaries who often go their individual way, outside any institutional framework. Three main orientations are underlined in this secular spirituality : the search for a ``word`` which nourishes the life of the spirit and finds and echo in today`s seeker : the experience of interiority which leads to foundations of the self ; the experience of alterity which provokes the going out of self and the gift of self. To be holy without God is another expression of secular spirituality. Transcendence here is envisaged horizontally : the sacred is not to be found outside the human being. In the perspective of dialogue encouraged by Vatican II, it seems urgent to be present to these spiritual worlds and to open a space where the basic orientations of different forms of spiritual life can be discussed. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Following in the footsteps of many Christian educators, who in former times opened a path towards holiness, the educator of today can be an authentic prophet. Skilled in relationships, he/she can reconcile people with the fraternal dimension of human life. For the baptized, such a relationship finds its origin in the Father revealed by Jesus Christ. Mutual trust, optimism and hope are so many positive signs of an ever affirmed covenant. The ``other`` - the one being educated - can thus become the spokesperson of the ``All Other``. Exploring various facets of the education relationship, the educator can build up his/her own spirituality. The work of education thus becomes a path whereby the educator can nourish one`s soul. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Drawing on her experience as a physician and psychotherapist, the author speaks of the difficulty to integrate in psychotherapy such questions : Is there a psychic life different from spiritual life? How does one construct a space for speech ? What type of listening can be offered? What theoritical framework is appropriate? The reader is thereby invited to raise his/her own questions while listening to children and adults who try to construct their interior path, psychic and spiritual. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Talk of controlling desires is legitimate, but also fraught with danger. We need first to let ourselves acknowledge that we have them, and then make a free decision about whether or not we want straightforwardly to satisfy them. Only when this work has been done can we healthily talk about control : control not as the suppression of all desire, but rather the ordering of desire, in particular the recognition that some desires will shape our life commitments and others will be peripheral. Pastoral care, even with people whose spirituality is underdeveloped, is primarily a matter of awakening authentic desire ; talk of control is appropriate only when that process has begun. There is also potential for destructive collusion between Christian ascetical instincts and the religiously articulated superego, resisting the divine call to move beyond convention. |
