| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The role of philosophy is to question the obvious, to scrutinize certainties and false problems and to lead towards meaning. Taking the relay, Christian theology will set up, on the one hand, constructive restraint and, on the other hand, abilities for qustions and proposals. Restraint: At times, Christianity has been temptent to reach saturation point, specifically in its affirmation of truth and its massive presence in the public space. One should go beyond this situation, which can generate unforeseen possibilities. Proposals: Faith in Jesus Christ, the first born from the dead, frees us from encclosure, from the so-called real world, and opens up space for surprises, mobilizing utopias, which do not eliminate the tragic side of human life. On the level of meaning, the mission of the christian Churches could be to denounce the idols and to announce new horizons fpr the real questions. The Churches should take part in the common search towards a democratic society, a society which fosters discussions, bringing in the best of past memories, finding new articulations-especially in the field of ethics- for the various autonomous areas of human and social reality. All this should take place without forgetting the symbolic order which, beyond mechanistic relationalism, opens up towards the demain of relationship and love. |

The debt implies a lack of sovereignty and is also a transfer mechanism of wealth produced by the poor countries. After a quick historical survey, the article enumerates a few consequences of the new debt crisis, analyzes the various proposals made by the G7, the IMF and the World Bank to conclude with the proposals of the jubilee 2000 Campaign. |

This ethics aims at promoting and managing the Creation and it can be expressed both in our personal lives and in civil and political sphares. Such a responsibility is close to the concept of sustainable development, and so is the prudent attitude of the principle of care. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The article present a few observations made during a class project in asecondary School. Beyond fireworks, words and slogans, what is the significance of the Millenium for young people? The author finds in youth a blow up of all trends and tendencies of society in general, specially a lack of sybolism concerning space and time. Young people live the passage to the new millenium under the sign of chronos, the non-symbolic time. To give back to the individual person a historical memory so that he/she can internally resist against the pervasive techno-scientism and enter a hermeneutics of the desire : these are two directions to be fostered by a religious education that listens simultaneously to the world and to Biblical revelation. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The article explains how the laws conerning workers, animals and land in the Old Testament are organised in cycles of seven days and of seven years, which conclude with a period of test. The sabbath the sabbatical year and the jubilee year appear to be institutions created in the course of time as a response to political and economic activities which become too overwhelming. The author shows how rest is an initial sign of freedom : rest allows one to stop, to reflect, to look wisely at oneself and others. This could be the eason why in the Bible rest is often linked with friendship and celebration. The very term "jubilee" implies these ideas. |

Such is the orientation of the various encounters organised by the Sant`Egidio community since 1987. The article gives a brief overview of the options and orientations for these yearly encounters; then centres on recent concrete projects and realizations: work for peace in Mozambique, Algeria, Central Africa. It concludes with the proposal to suppress capital punishement in various countries of the world for the year 2000. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | If the sacred is possessed of a substantial significance, as univocal as it is universal, then its variations must be of a purely accidental if not merely superficial nature. If on the contrary the sacred is simply a conventionalized category, its meaning must be relatively specific, i.e.related to given sociohistorical situations. In this case, though one can still speak of variations, what counts fundamentally is the analytical inventory of specific differences rather than their artifically induced convergence around a merely contrived commomn denominator. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Before attempting to answer the question, one must first of all draft the place that the ``sacred`` is still keeping i our so-called secularized societies. One can then recover the original aim of the ``setting apart`` which constitutes the sacred in all religions, and its ability to manifest something as transcendant. The central question revolves around the newness of the Jesus event and his radical criticism of any form of the sacred which might shround the encounter between human beings and God. In this light, one may at the same time justify the meaning of the sacred in christianity (centred on the sacraments) and criticize its deviations, for we must always remain vigilant on this issue. |
