| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Two very different examples illustrate the meaning and function of silence in Hinduism. 1. The ancient Hindu world was founded on the celebration of rituals and sacrifices. The recitation of words taken from the Vedic revelation would ensure the efficacious character of the liturgical gestures. But when some people began to search for an Absolute beyond the gods and their llimited benefits, the rite had to give place to meditation; silence replaced words. 2. In the XVth century, Kabir, a huhmble weaver from Benares, taught in his poems a demanding spiritual path, on the confines of Hinduism and Islam. For him, silence only, true , allows one to hear the words of the interior master and to enter innto a life of praise. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Modern man is more open to the silence of God than to his World. On the other hand, many people live a form of silence which brings anguish and nothingness. The author believees that under its various forms, silence is at the source of any evangelization and is also the end of contemplation. In such conditions, there is no question of simply delivering sermons. What matters is a common witness, and a common listening to God. The author speaks about three places where young people-and others-come to live and to share, with a common purpose: peace, silence, prayer, sevice. He gives us a personal testimony proclaiming that silence is the source of what we are all looking for. How to enter into that silence? Not by a definite effort of the will but by that deep trust and confidence, that comunion with God which is called prayer. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The title of this article could be misinterpreted. Some might rejoice in what they would consider as a much needed call to order. Others on the contrary would underline the faqstive character of the Eucharist. What is the validity or relativeness of these reactions? The article first offers some reflections on the anthropological meaning, properly human and truly humanizing, of silence. He then surveys the witness of Scripture, which is the source giving structure to the specifically Christian celebrations. He finally considers the place of silence in the liturgical renewal after the Second Vatican Council, especially a few hymns and prayers from the French edition of the Liturgy of the Hours, in which silence is a privileged theme. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Silence can express a refusal to commuicate. It is then based on fear, guilt, lack of confidence in myself and in others. In his life at the , Jean Vanier has met people who suffered a lot, but also people who have discovered peace, silence, maturity. Would not people who are not to the forefront of public life, people who do not speak with ease or speed have something to tell us about silence? But it always takes time to discover that form of maturity where one lives in the present with a peaceful and silent heart. In order to listen to the other, silence is basic, a silence which allows welcome and generates friendship, a sillence in which words are not necessary any more. What is true for human relationships, concludes the author, is still more valid and true in our relationship with God. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The article speas about the discovery of the role of the body in prayer; rather than being considered as an obstacle or a frightful antagonist, the body becomes a friendly collaborator, at the service of interior development, integrated into the spiritual search. The body is there to keep us in constant awareness, to make us feel in a very concrete way what is openness, receptivity. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The article first examines the modern phenomenon of communication: what basic inspiration presides over its birth and development? Will not that communication society bring about a new utopia, particularly dangerous, which intends to generate a person without interiority? Analyzing the unintended consequences of this utopian project, we understand that the new ideology of modern communication invalidates the basic human experience as underlined in the title of the article. Only a reflection on the symbolic dimension of language can help us to give due place to the intimate link between communication and silence. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | How would one read ancient Biblical texts in such a way that resound for uswhat has given life to so many believers before us? For the author the field opened by the symbolic order (i.e. a system of relationships between the various elements and levels of a given culture, which provides orienteation and meaning) and the philosophy of language are particularly helpful to perceive the Good News as the Word that gives life and freedom today. The article invites us to read the Bible and to understand the language of faith from the category of the Covenant, with the basic concepts of law, promise and grace. The Bible text receives then light and speaks tl our sensitivity of men and women of the XXth century when we read it starting from the categories of the symbolic order, because the basic human desire to love and to be loved is then recognized. The Bible narrative is perceived as a text which reveals our identity and speaks about our lives. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Vatican II has reminded the Catholics that the reading of the Bible is as important as the celebration of the Eucharist. But to read the Bible is not easy. A recent Roman document examines different methods is not easy. A recent Roman documents examines different methods which can help to understand the riches of the biblical texts:"The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church"(1993). It is impossible to present in a few lines the different methods and approaches mentioned in the Document. With the example of a Gospel text (The Widow`s Son at Nain in Lk 7:11-17), the article shows the different methods at work: historical criticism, rhetorical analysis, narrative analysis, semiotics, canon criticism, psychological approach, feminist reading, etc. With the exception of the fundamentalist reading which has to be rejected, all other methods, with their specificity and limitations, can help the believer to draw from the riches of the Bible. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The Bible is really a folk narrative. The most attentive and faithful listeners of Jesus were ordinary people. Going beyond cennturies and cultural differences, the Cardijn Training Centre has evolved a reading method which allows everyone to welcome and to put into practice, in today`s strenuous and comlex society, the life giving Word of God. This approach in organised in three steps, the first two centering on the text itself in its historical setting while the third step makes the link with today`s life. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The people of the Bile are in touch with their neighbours and borrow from them many elements of their thought. Yet, at the same time, Israel is conscious of her uniqueness and does not merge in the pagan environment. Such a creative tension is constitutive of the biblical vision. All through her history, Israel has oscillated between openness and withdrawal. The heritage received from Canaan is significant as well as the influnce of Egyptian wisdom and the great Babylonian myths. Yet, keeping the memory of the Exodus events and under the impact of the great conversion prophets from Amos onwards, Israel is convinced to be the people of the Covenant. To share the cultural heritage of the neighbouring peoples and to safeguard one`s own heritage: this tension of the people of the Bible is still present in the Christian Churches today. |
