| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The authors of this testimony are actively engaged in the Couple and Family Pastoral Commision. they share with us their itinerary, from the days folowing Vatican II which invited lay people to share responsibilities in the Church. They are committed as a couple and are convinced of the value of doing so. One sees in this a beneficial complementarity for pastoral work. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The issue of the difference between the sexes is one of the key questions of our time. Chistianity has not yet fully discovered the meaning and possibilities of sexual difference. These two ideas are the background to the article which tries to explore the difference between the sexes and the spiritual significance of this. The task is not easy for we must go beyond a good number of stereotypes about the masculine and the feminine. Moreover, we must question the traditional masculine relationship to the world and to reality: mastery and domination. In order to do this, one can benefit from the resources and the intuitions of the judeo-christian tradition, for they are greater and richer than we ususally believe. The author examines first te basic text of Gn 1-2, before considering the possible deviations from an androgynous model. He then offers some reflections about the sexual difference from the point of view of anthropology, also taking into account the spiritual dimension. From a spiritual understanding, the masculine and the feminine are not just particularities but are different modalities of the universal. Theological reflection has not yet brought forwards all the resources to understand what revelation has to say abou humankind an about God, more especially concerning a few central affirmations of the christian faith: God, the Father, beyond sexual diffrence; the first born of all creation eing a man; the Word born of a woman; the place and role of women in the Gospels, etc. The article concludes with three propositions which are offered as a contribution to a larger debate: 1) the Church has not yet recognized the place and role of women, and much progress remains to be done; 2) advances shall not be made by following the dominant cultural models(e.g. giving predominance to the question of equality rather than difference); 3) finding the correct relationship between the symbolic and the real. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Instead of using the concept of complementarity, people today prefer to speak in terms of partnership. Whichever term one uses Christians, men and women, have been compelled all through history to work together but also to share ideas of their mission and of the Church, even their way to God. Many spiritualn``couples`` are well known. The article speaks about less known examples: Macrine and Gregorry, in the IV ^th century Asia Minor, and Jeanne Jugan and Rev. Le Pailleur, in XIX^th century France. This is a study, as it were, in contrasts: in the first example, the charismas combine to give rise to spiritual companionship while in the other case real differences bring out nevertheless an undeniable success in spite of the trials. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | For the last 25 years, ``Femmes et Hommes en Englise``(Women and Men in the church) seeks to promote better relationships between men and women in society, and more specifically in the churches. The group is international and ecumenical, and itsoriginality lies in its being a mixed group. This mixed composition is not easy to maintain, yet it allows to put forward the women`s question as a matter for society at large and for the whole Church and not for women only. It is also a ceherent way to bring about new types of relationships between the sexes, to set the balance right in a tradition of domination/submission ad to offer mutual enrichment. These inspirations nourish the present reflection of the group on the ordination of women. The ``Gaillot affair`` in the diocese of Evreux (France) was of great concern to the group which found there new stimulus. An original contribution is expected for the UN Peking Conference. Through its quarterly blletin, ``Femmes et Hommes en englise``, it reflects the trends ad divergences which come up in the group. Indeed to avoid any form of totalitarism, it is essential to encourage partnership and exchange of ideas. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The catechetical ministry in Latin America is undeniably under way: production of catechetical material, countless experiences in the base christian communities, Church documents, celebrations of various kinds, training centres, courses, encounters,...Nevertheless we should keep a critical look at all these activities! The catechetical ministry is exposed to temptations which must be overcome in order to remain faithful to God`s plan. The article identifies and discusses seven of the most significant temptations: culture of the slogan, fear of the unusual, control syndrome, nostalgia for monolithic situation, wearing down catechists, postponement of utopias, fascination for orthodoxy, lack of real consideration for the catechists themselves. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | When they speak about social realities (e.g. unemployment, ageing, immigration, mass media, etc), Christians, even the most convinced ones, often speak interms of their social milieu, if not of their political party, and their spontaneous response is often far removed from the Gospel values. Where does this incoherency come from? How can we ovecome the gap between the Gospel and day to day life? The article describes the procedure of a training session which attempted to change how we look at daily events. The session, from Friday evening till Sunday afternoon, was conducted by two persons of complementary qualification, a journalist and a theologian. Starting from the experience of the participants (relationship with immigrants, staff redundancy, non practising godfather, etc.), the session was designed to help Christians understand society according to the ``see-judge-act`` method: How can one know the real situation? How does one refer to the Gospel? What kind of action is possible? |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Is the school just a place for transmitting and acquiring knowledge, or is it at the same time a place of education, i.e. a place which allows the pasage from one state to another: from iqnorance to knowledge but also from childhood towards maturity, which implies passing from egocentric withdrawal to regard for the welfare of others. For the last few years, sociologists have noted in our societies the surge of individualism and the waning of duty; we live in a culture of narcissism and contentment. The school does not escape from this environment and pedagogy does not favour any more communitarian activities. It is however possible to open the youth to wider horizons and to look at the problems of our time, to sensitize to humanitarian actions. We need to go even further, i.e. to go beyond humanitarian campaigns and generous feelings to genuine altruism and care for the condition of others. The best way to develop this awareness is to understand the socio-economic mechanisms of our world and to link this undestanding with a reflection including ethical perspective. Religious education classes are neither the only nor the best place to face up to these colective challenges of the modern world. It is the school as such which should be the place of passage from infantile egocentrism to sodial maturity. The school can help to change not only mentalities, but also society at large. One condition is required: that the youth may have at school the opportunityn for strong, coherent, mobilizing experiences. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The article describes the grat challenges and orientations of catechesis in Colombia. Not all catechists consider the social issues as a starting point for catechesis, and this has prevented a real movement in tackling the social issues in catechesis. The author considers that the great social challenges of Colombia start with the new Colombian constitution, implemented from 1991. A National project has been set up whichis based on unity, democracy, participation, pluralism, human dignity, work, solidarity. Other challenges arise from the socio-economic order: neo-liberalism, poverty, human rights, violence. After situating these various questions, the author offers catechetical suggestions, with concrete orientations in each case. it is important to note that work is already being done along these orientations and that the others will be implemented later. The social challenges met by the catechists in Colombia are not proper to that country. Many other Latin american countries present a social reality akin to the one of Colombia, especially with regard to democracy, neo-liberaliism, provety, human rights and violence. |
