Abstraksi Narasi : In 1985, the crisis of the Apartheid system and the divisions among Christian Churches were interpreted as a time for truth, a moment of ``visitation" to use a Gospel term (Lk 19:44), i.e. a kairos. Signed by more than 150 theologians and Church leaders, the Kairos document would lead to vigorous debates and exchanges in the Churches. For some, the document was justifying anarchy, encouraging revolution, forgetting hope and conversion, too much in line with a single political party (the ANC). However the document was well received by many others. Translated into many languages it would allow the development of international solidarity. It was a call to the Churches to be on the side of the poor and the oppressed. In the years to follow, other documents have seen the light, based on the same thrust. The article examines the Kairos phenomenon and the theoloical genre of the Kairos literature. Kairos is not just for South Africa. It has grown in Central America. from 1992, Kairos-Europe is developing the same issues, refusing to separate what has to be taken together like the North/south problems, social justice in industrialized countries, environment problems, etc. More than ever, Christians have to remain vigilant.

Faire Face au Sentiment d`Impuissance

Abstraksi Narasi : For the Christian, the gospel priorityn given to the poor is not optinal nor secondary. It is a constitutive dimension of the following of Christ. However one of the greatest obstancles to mobilize the Christian communities on these issues is a feeling of powerlessness, a feeling shared by many citizens of industrialized countries confronted with society at large. It is important to analyze that feeling, to measure it, and so unravel its mechanism in order to give hoope and action their rightful place. confronted with the temptation to give up, confonted with the flight towards individual success and home privacy, we want to make the voice of the Gospel resound and summon the strength of the Spirit. Such a perspective should awaken not only the hope of the Christians but also the faith which moves anyone who has not renounced to contributing to the buiding of a more just and more human world. The article opens up with a look at situations which could lead to laying down one`s arms. The authors then analyze the mechanisms which generate a feeling of powerlessness. They show that the Christian option invites us to discover a spiritual dimension and to remain hopeful. Finally thearticle shows that many, Christians and non-Christians, are able to go beyond the feeling of powerlessness and set up renewed solidarities and actions.

Europe: Defis Collectifs et Replis Individuels

Abstraksi Narasi : At its birth, Europe was carried forward by a great inspiration. Forty five years later, the trajectory leading to the European Union shows, to say the least, important departures from the original intuitions but also major shifts with regard to the real questions. The author first underlines significant changes which have taken place in Europe: economic life, cold war, borders for Europe, latin and orthodox worlds, unemployment and exclusion, the weight of immigration and of Islam,... In the second part, the author considers the risks and the opportunities; bureaucratic deadlocks, prevalence of economy, explosion of nationalism, cultural diversity, social inequalities, technological innovations, etc. It is urgent to mobilize the spiritual resources so that they can contribute to the framing of a social consensus needed for a valid European political project. Therein lies a great challenge for the Catholic Church.

De Soi a l`Autre: L`Ecole Comme Lieu de Passage

Abstraksi Narasi : Is the school just a place for transmittig and acquiring knowledge, or is it at the same time a place of education, i.e. a place which allows the passage from one state to another: from ignorance to knowledge, but also from childhood towards maturity, whichh implies passing from egocentric withdrawal to regard for he welfare of others. For the last few years, sociologists have noted in our societies the surge of individualism and the waning od duty; we live in a culture of narcissism and contentment. The school does not escape from this environment and pedagogy does not favour any more communitarian activities. It is however possible to open the youth to wider horizons and to look at the problems of our time, to sensitize to humanitarian actions. We need to go even further, i.e. to go beyond humanitarian campaigns and generous feelings to genuine altruism and care for the condition of others. The best way to develop this awareness is to understand the socio-economic mechanisms of our world and to link this understanding with a reflection including ethical perspective. Religious education classes are neither the only nor the best place to face up to these collective challenges of the modern world. It is the school as such which should be the place of passage from ifantile egocentrism to social maturity. The aschool can help to change not only mentalities, but also society at large. One condition is required: that the youth may have at school the opportunity for strong, coherent, mobilizing experiences.

Abstraksi Narasi : The story of he feeding of the five thousand has been chosen because it is in line with he heme of this issue. The article also offers a practical example of a structural analysis of Scripture in a group of adult Christians. Before analyzing the text itself, the article recalls basic principles about structural analysis. The aim of structural analysis is to perceive the interplay between elements of the text. Methodologically a simple way to start a strucutral analysis of a narrative (in story form) is to underline the changes: initial state, transformation, final situation. After the study and analysis of the Gospel text of Mt 14 and its various transformations, the group tried to actualize its meaning and discussed four points: the Eucharist can not be separated from active commitment leading to the ``sharing of the bread``; christians have to do this through their own associations as much as through public organisations; market economy is situated in front of another dimension, gift and grace; Jesus` command does not induce a paternalistic attitude. While in the past, the reading of the pericope has centred around the ``multiplication of the loaves`` by Jesus, this analysis has helped to discover others meanings, on the theological, pastoral and social level.

The Translation of Culturally Bound Expression

Abstraksi Narasi : A culturally bound expression (CBE) is an expression whose meaning depends on the culture of the speakers. A CBE is used to give a vivid impact or for the sake of style, and can be differentiated into a lexical and a grammatical CBE. A lexical CBE can be identified from the vivid impact which it creates, and or from the semantic incongruence which it has. A grammatical CBE is a culturally specific feature of a language which another language probably does not have. A CBE can be translated in a cultural, plain or enriched traslation. A cultural translation is achieved with the use an equivalent CBE in the target language. A plain translation only conveys the basic (noncultural) meaning which a CBE has, and is achieved after a sematic analysis of the expression. An enriched translation is achieved by adding an adverb to compensate for the loss of a cultural meaning which is not translated into a plain translation, or by adding certain syntactic constructions to strengthen the impact of the translated text.

Abstraksi Narasi : Hesitation in speaking is a common thing that happens in almost every speech. This phenomenon appears not only for people speaking a first, second, or third language, but also in their mother tongue. Hesitation pauses happen when people have problems in formulating their plan before speaking. This article suggests that hesitation pauses do not encourage people to produce correct grammar in speech. In addition, there are findings which show those common hesitation pauses and grammatical mistakes that some Indonesia students made.

Abstraksi Narasi : This study investigated the possibility of the relation between students` sexes and their achievement in learning English as a foreign language. After studying English at an English Education department, the achievements of the female students in the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) as well as in their overall proficiency were compared with those of the male students. Abstraksi Narasi : This article is an analysis of W.B. Yeats`s Purgatory. The play deals with the purification of a self (a poet`s self). The murders in this play must be understood as symbols. The murder of the father symbolized the purification of the past self; the murder of the boy signifies the purification of the future self; the return of the ghost symbolized the self`s doubt of the so-called purgative effort.
