Abstraksi Narasi : This study concerns with the issue that that beta values in the emerging capital markets are biased, due to nonsynchronous trading activities. This study confirms the issue, and gives evidences that beta values of firms listed in the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) are biased. The bias needs to be corrected. From the three methods employed: the Scholes and Williams(1977), the Dimson(1979), and the Fowler and Rorke (1983). The latter is the strongest in reducing the bias. This study also finds that the bias in beta values is strengthened by the return data that are not normally distributed. By normalizing the distribution of the return data, the correction of the bias is quicker. For return data that are not normally distributed, the correction of the bias needs longer period (four lags and four leads) adjusment, while for normally distributed return data, the correction only needs one lag and one lead period adjusment.

Abstraksi Narasi : The rapid growth of business naturally has forced the competition to exacerbate in every kind of activities including marketing. Such competition can be triggered to prices, packages, or brands of products. Companies sholud be aware of their competitors` tactics in gaining marketshare. Hence, the use of brand that ties to the custamer`s heart is very trivial to prevent their changes o other brand. One good method in creating longterm relationship between producers and custamers is by building and managing brand equity properly. A new paradigm of assessing brand equity is by rating the product brand. There are ten characteristics of brand that the world`s strongest brands share which reflects their brand`s performance and construct a brend report card to identify and configurate every single attribute in brand. Implications for management are implementing a strategy in putting grade that appropriates to the product. Therefore, companies` goals and objectives including profitability, productivity and increased marketshare can be achieved, thus creating custamer loyalty that led to custamer-based brand equity.

Abstraksi Narasi : For some time now, a growing number of senior corporations have attempted to boost productivity, quality, custamersevice, and efficiency by fundamentally redefining what employees do and how they do it. The approach, known as Business Process Reengineering (BPR), produces breakthrough gains in process performance when implemented correctly (Manganelli,1995). However, reengineering programmes often fail. Despite its popularity, 4 out of 5 reengineering programs have been unsuccessful. There are several reasons why they fail, but one of the main reasons is many programs lack senior executive sponsorship. This paper proposes a model that links the success of BPR implementation in an organization to transformational leadership and organizational learning. The model, TLLO, combines two known concepts, Transformational Leadership and the Learning Organization, to help guide a BPR implementation.

Abstraksi Narasi : This study, in essence, attempts to discuss critically the ethical construction of accounting discipline by sharing Syari`ate (Islamic) ideas on self`s peception of ethics, human nature (self) and society, and the anthology and epistemology of knowledge. The study utilizes the analytical framework of Burrell and Morgan (1979) which is formulated to search and map the sociological paradigm of organization theory (social science). The result of the study suggest that religious and transcendental methodology can be applied to construct Shari`ate accounting. By doing so, Shari`ate accounting not only can reflect ethical reality contructed by society in an accurate manner, but also can assist in creating social reality ethically.

Nomor Halaman : 163-184
Abstraksi Narasi : This research examines on some deviating behavior of the efficient market hypothesis and the concept of rationality. There arre three main hypothesis; overreaction hypothesis, uncertain information hypothesis, and reverse anticipation puzzle, which are tasted in this research. The overraction hypothesis stated that investors overreact in the initial period and subsequently correct themselves or people tend to everwight recent information and to underwight prior data, the result is stock prices significantly increase (decrease) out of it`s fundamental value after negative (positive) event. Therefore, the uncertain information hypothesis has the same estimate with overreaction hypothesis for positive event, but it has a different estimate on negative event; the abnormal return (as indicators of exess value of stock on it`s fundamental value) is non-negative after positive event resolved. The third hypothesis, reverse anticipation puzzle, examined the behavior of stock return before an event. It suggests that before positive (negative) event, stock return is negative (positive). The research finds a mix finding of the proposed hypothesis. The cumulative abnormal return behaviors before and after an event diverge from the magnitude of event and event direction (wether it is positive or negative) to company size measured by its market capitalization. The overreaction hypothesis is found in both large sized firm portfolios and small ones, but for a positive event of large sized firm portfolio, the significant negative response is found only in small and medium event magnitude, whereas for big positive event magnitude the response is positive contend that uncertain information hypothesis is sustained. In line with the rationality concept of Friedman (1953), the existence of overreaction in the JSX means that the market is not rational and furthermore does not fulfill the efficient market hypothesis. Generally, the uncertain information hypothesis tends to operate as a response to significant big positive events. Moreover, the consistent reverse anticipation puzzle tends to exist as an anticipation toward positive events rather than negative ones. It is found that CARs preceding positive (negative) event are not necessarily negative (positive). The overreaction hypothesis, uncertain information hipothesis, and reverse anticipation hypothesis cannot explain those findings. The anticipation direction that is the same as the following event may be driven by "information drain" that investors probably graspedfrom insiders.

Nomor Halaman : 137-149
Abstraksi Narasi : With the turbulence experienced in management and information technology during the later part of the 2nd millenium, and the dawn of the yet to be clear 3rd millenium, there is no more conviction needed nor, compromise to be reached between the state and the citizens in terms of service delivery. This requires recognition of the citizens as custamers, and the gateway left for the government being that of embracing the `market failure` principle in order to come out of this service delivery trap and chaos. This article is therefore out to invite and persuade the reader to investigate by him/herself the issues discussed here that necessitates invoking the marketing concept, and specifically so the adaptation of the relationship marketing paradigm in the delivery of services to the public. So, this article, besides defining the concept-marketing the government-and xploring areas that necessitates adoption of the marketing concept into the public sector does not detail how to go about the tedious marketing process and procedure. Thus, the scope is limited to exploring the areas related to economics, organizations, and human behavior to assist in explaining how far market concepts can resolve the chaos and prevailing service delivery trap to the public. The reader is also persuaded to discover the point of convergence between marketing, the human and organizational needs, and behavior. Once this has been achieved, the reader will be expected to perceive the relational exchange process of marketing the government. Discussed in this article as well, is the interrelationship between marketing the government and investment, reinvention, and reengineering concepts.

The only businesses that survive in the crisis are small-and middle-sized firms. Unlike other economic actors, these small-and medium-sized firms are even enjoying their exports. In order for them to perform more effectively and efficiently. They should form an association in which each member firm sells and allocates its output as intermediate inputs to other members firms and as final products to community, investors, government, and foreign market. At the same time, buys its intermediate inputs from other member firms and its other resources from owners of resources in producing its output (micro-level application of input-output model). Each member is required to specialize in producing/supplying its intermediate inputs/unique & destinctive product/its best selling major product to other member firms and itself. Through this association, member firms can expand together and grow together, besides absorbing employment.

Abstraksi Narasi : To improve their operational efficiency and to maintain their competitiveness in the market place, many organizations continue to invest substantially in their Information Technology (IT) capability, but how do the employees themselves view the impact and the value of IT investment? This paper considers this question in the context of the hospitally industry. More specifically, it investigates the different perception of hotel employees on the impact of organizational IT investment on (a) IT usage by employees, (b) employee satisfaction with the IT systems, (c) changes in the level of employee performance, and (d) organizational performance of the hotel. The survey was done to 945 hotel employees in Bali, Indonesia, who use information technology in their daily operations, to assess their perception of the organizational impact of IT. Factor analysis of variance, and regression analysis were performed on the data to examine the range of employee viewpoints. Results showed that there were significant differences among the employees` perceptions with respect to age, educational level, position in the hotel, and individual income. These findings suggest that even senior management may regard the investment in IT is worthwhile, there may be a devergance of opinion among the employees as to what are the real benefits of IT. In order to fully leverage the potential of their IT investment, managers should pay particular attention to shoping the views of the employeea who ultimately determine whether the IT capabilities in an organization are put to use.
