| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The research has two objectives. The first objective is to analyze whether the beta of unleverage firms significantly reflects the sensitivity of a stock`s returns on the market portfolio. The second one is to analyze the impact of the operating leverage, cyclicality, and firm size to the business risk. The study was carried out on the 30 most active manufacturing companies in the Jakarta Stock Exchange, based on trading frequency during 1993-1995 period. The first objective was analyzed by using the market model and time seriees linear regression. The beta is measured by the coefficient of the regression, where are dependent variable is returns on a stock and the inepenent variable is returns on market portfolio. The result shows that most betas are statistically significant. Thus, the beta of unleverage firms can be a proxy to the business risk. The second objective is analyzed by using cross sectional linier regression. The result of the partial test indicates that the variables of the cyclicality and firm size have significant effect on the business risk, but the operating leverage does not. The result on the simultameous test also indicates that the cyclicality and firm size have significant effect to the business risk. The cyclicality has positive impacts on the business risk, while the firm size has negative impact on the business risk. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This research examines the influence of Economic Value Added (EVA) and Returns On Assets (ROA) to the stock returns. EVA is a new method to asses company`s performance. EVA is expected to imply an important information for the investor. The fact is that for ILQ 45 companies, the ROA measure has a better relationship with the share`s returns compared to EVA. EVA was also found statistically not sigificant in explaining the rate of stock returns. The explanation of this finding is that of EVA has not been used and reported in financial statement, so that the investors do not use it yet in decision making. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The purpose of this study is to analyze price fluctuations in bank stocks listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX). This study uses two dynamic models: ECM (Error Correction Model) and FLN (Forward Looking Model) to analyze data in the short and long-runs and to compare the decision making of market players based on backward and forward looking information. The model also takes into account important pilitical and economic events, such as the change in presidency from Soeharto to Habibie and the decision of the Indonesia Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) to supervise and freeze bank operation. The findings of this study indicate that the change in national leadership and the IBRA decision segnificanly influenced the price of bank stocks listed on the JSX. The exchange rate of the rupiah against the US dollar is also contributing factor. Comparison between ECM and FLM shows that FLM better describes the movements in stock price for almost all banks. Market players give more consideration to forward information than backward information when making current decisions. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This study examines financial performances and characteristics of U.S. multinational and domestic firms. Michel and Shaked (1986) provide emppirical results using the 1973- 1982 period. Their study shows that domestic firms have significanly superior risk-adjusted, market performance compared to multinational firms performances. However, whether these results still apply to the current conditions is an interesting question because of the changes in economic condition and stock market laws and regulations. Contrary to the expectation, the empirical results show that risk-adjusted, market based performances of multinational firms outperform those of domestic firms. In addition, this study also shows that for multinational firms, quick ratios, return n assets, inventory turnovers, and capitalization ratios are key variables to monitor. For domestic firms, return on assets, market-to-book ratios, and dividend payout ratios are key variables to monitor. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The economic crisis in Indonesia can be seen in two perspectives. First, it is contagion effect of a currency crisis that hit Thailand in May 1997. Second, it is a combination of economic and political crises of confidence in the country. No one can precisely predict what is going to happen in the nearfuture. Too many domestic factors influence the national economic situation. From the conmic point of view, the current crisis reminds policy makers hardly that orientation on growth can not sustain the development. In addition to political reform, economic reform is absolutely needed. This includes a new orientation of development, opennes of information, fairness of business deals as well as strong efforts and real action to eliminate "unhealthly culture" of collution, corruption, croniism and nepotism. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The globalization of competition has recently led many firms to integrate their information systems. Based on a selective review of literature on strategic and information management,a model is developed to study corporate strategic response to the APEC Free Trade Agreement (AFTA). The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of competitive strategy, information technology maturity and size on a firm`s strategic response to AFTA. A survey of 44 firms found that information technology development influences the perceived increase in a firm`s investment in information technology. Competitive strategy and size do not affect a firm`s strategic response to perceived increase in investment in information technology. This suggests that new increasing, competitive strategies will consist of technology-based global initiatives that are affected by the firm`s level of development in information technology. |
