| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Describing his article as an ``interim report,`` Jacob Mitterhofer says that liberation theology is not merely the product of sociological and economic theory, but pastoral concern for the concrete spiritual-religious needs of poor people. It is a theology which manifests itself in a variety of ways and, though prophetic, serves no particular political program, including Marxism. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Perhaps, says Jose Sudbrack, legends and images come closer to the depth of the biblical witness than does historical-critical exegesis. To reach the depth of meaning in John`s account of the family of Bethany onemust, says Sudbrack, appropriate the story for oneself, mediate upon it and in than mediation direct one`s gaze toward Jesus. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The newer commentaries on Hosea, says Helen Schungel-Straumann, do not take into accountant the fact that Hosea 11 presents a vivid image of Yahweh as mother. Whether implicity or explicity, the divine has always been thought of in the Christian tradition as male. However, when Hosea`s image of God as mother is ignored or presed into a male mold, it loses its concrete expressive power. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Non-Catholics have faulted the texts of Vatican II for so much stress on Christ that the work of the Spirit is seen only in terms of actualizing what Christ did. Contemporary Catholic theology must clarify the activity of the Spirit in the church and the relation between pneumatology and christology, not only in baptism and confirmation but also in the eucharist. In his contribution to this task Lamberts reflects on the meaning of the epiclesis, based on scripture, history and theology. He considers not only the consecration but also the communion epiclesis. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Our understanding of the word mission, says Michael Kratz, has changed over the centuries. Especially since Vatican II and the Decree on the Missionary Activity of the church (Ad gentes), the question has arisen: Does mission still have meaning? Though non-Christians not only have the right but the responsibility to follow their own religions, God`s definitive word of salvation was spoken in Jesus Christ. The church`s constant task is to witness to this word in proclamation, service, praise and community. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | In early Christianity the entire church was responsible for receiving and transmitting the faith tradition. While bishops had the special task of preserving and proclaiming the faith, the whole church, the people of God, had the task of ``attentive, probing and judicious listening`` (Hippolytus). Teaching (bishops) and listening (the faithful) are responsibilities which must be carried out in mutual cooperation. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This article traces the history of ``women preaching the gospel`` from New Testament times or our own. All those who preach the gospel wrestle with the word they are called to preach. However, women have to struggle for ablessing in a particular way because the biblical texts themselves include a patriarchal bias. The challenge of all preachers to find the good news of salvation in a specific text requires a critcal hermeneutic which can distinguish historical-cultural conditioning and patriarchal bias from the Word of God. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This address was the 1986 William L. Rossner Visiting Scholar Lecture, delivered at Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Missouri, September, 1986. W. Norris Clarke, S.J., is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy, Fordham University, New York. He was the co-founder and Editor in Chief of the International Philosophical Quarterly (1961-85), and served as President of the Jesuit Philosophical Association of North America (1960-61). He is the author of many journal articles and books, among them The Philosophical Approach to God: A Contemporary Neo-Thomist Perspective (1979) and ``Action as the Self-Revelation of Being: A Central Theme in the Thought of St. Thomas,``in Linus Thro, ed. History of Philosophy in the Making (1982). He continues to do research on the metaphysical structure of the person. Soon to be published by Fordham University Press is Fifty Years of Metaphysical Reflection: The Universe as Journey, a book in honor of Fr.Clarke`s retirement. For St. Thomas, to be a human person in the fullest sense of the word, is to be on a journey. The three central characteristics of personal being as it journeys toward the Great Center of all being are: 1) self-possession, 2) self-communication and 3) self-transcendence. The first two are always in reciprocal interplay with each other. The third, self-transcendence, takes on first the good of others and then the Great Center of all being as the new center of our conscious lives of knowing, evaluating and loving. Paradoxically, then, self-transcendence or self-forgetting turns out to be the fullest possible degree of self-possession. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Especially since Nicea (325) and Chalcedon (451) the Prologue of John`s gospel has often been read in the light of christological and trinitarian controversies. Piet Schoonenberg, S.J., seeks rather to read it in its own biblical context, emphasizing the connection between the Logos of the Prologue and the Wisdom of Old Testament sapiental literature. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Although, says Aiden Nichols, the Rahner/Fries book Unity of the Churches: An Actual Possibility is of considerable intrinsic interest, little was heard about it until Fr. Daniel Ols, O.P., professor of dogmatic theology at the Angelicum University, Rome, published an acerbic review of the book in L` Osservatore Romano (1985). His review, says Nichols, has since been interpreted as the ``Vatican line.`` The following article summarizes the contents of the Fries/Rahner book, considers Fr. Ols` review and briefly describes Pere Bertrand de Margerie`s recent suggestion for church reunion. |
