The Pauline gospel and homosexuality

Nama Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Theology Digest

Nomor Halaman : 303-308
Abstraksi Narasi : This article was originally an address delivered to convent superiors of the Protestant Church in West Berlin-Brandenburg, July 31, 1985. The Pauline texts which deal with homosexuality, says Peter von der Osten-Sacken, indicate that, for Paul, homosexual conduct and being Christian were incompatible. At the same time, however, transformation to new life was possible through Christ. To meet the question today, various theological and hermeneutical problems have to be considered. We have to take into account especially that we will not be saved because we are hetero-or homosexual, but because we have turned toward God in Jesus Christ. That means we have to remember that, according to Paul`s gospel, ``There is neither Jew nor Greek, male nor female...for you are all one in Christ Jesus`` (Gal 3:28)

Abstraksi Narasi : Dupont`s careful exegesis of Lk 17:7-10 takes account of 20th century scholarship on Luke, but also notes aspects that have been overlooked. We summarize the conclusions worked out in the first (exegetical) part of the article, and give fuller treatment to his analysis Luke`s interpretation and of the audience for whom the parable was intended.

Marital love: Christian pluralism in the 12th century

Nama Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Theology Digest
Volume / Nomor Edisi : -
Nomor Halaman : 313-318
Abstraksi Narasi : Frequently in Christianity, says Josef Fuchs, problems and the search for solutions also have their history. Despite those who maintain otherwise, it cannot be shown historically that the church or people in the church always found the same solutions for the great variety of ethical problems. To say they did would mean that pluralism never existed and that ethical solutions were never conditioned by human (also Christian) historicity. An interesting example of this is found in the concept of marital love in the 12th century.

Abstraksi Narasi : In September, 1984, the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith published an ``Instruction on Certain Aspects of the ``Theology of Liberation.` ``This Instruction warned againts certain types of liberation theology which were accused of using Marxist concepts uncritically and whose use of scripture was said to be tainted with rationalism. In the following article Father Triana examines the basic principles of biblical interpretation used in the Instruction itself and responds to its claim that Latin American Liberation Theology`s use of scripture is reductionist.

Homosexuality and Catholic canon law

Nomor Halaman : 309-312
Abstraksi Narasi : The background for the following article is a bill pending in the Holland parliament to decriminalize homosexuality. The consequences of such a bill for Catholic institutions were studied by an interdisciplinary commission at the Center for Catholic Studies in Nijmegen. According to Knut Walf, the 1983 Code of Canon Law, unlike the 1917 Code, decriminalizes homosexuality. However, the new Code still has not adequately integrated the more recent research of the social sciences and Catholic moral theology. It should be noted that Prof. Walf wrote this article before the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith published its declaration on homosexuality in the Fall of 1986.

Death and eternal life

Abstraksi Narasi : The inevitable and inexorable reality of death, says Karl Matthaus Woschitz, is one of the great, enigmatic and basic human experiences. All great literature mirrors human experience as life in time; death is the end. Is this so? Can time be transcended? Is death conquerable? Does life find its unique fulfillment beyond time, in ``eternity``? These questions come to expression in human longings, hopes, anxieties and desires and find their definitive answer in Jesus Christ, the Prince of Life and death.
