Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Theology Digest
Volume / Nomor Edisi : -
Nomor Halaman : 229-234
Abstraksi Narasi : Prior to Vatican II, says Josef Neuner, one could not speak of a theology in India or an Indian theology because theology came from Europe or the U.S. Since the Middle Ages, Christianity has been ``exported,`` i.e., ensconced in Western thought patterns and European social and cultural models. The Indian church must articulate its faith to the Indian reality, but in community with the whole church.

Nomor Halaman : 251-257
Abstraksi Narasi : In Zygmunt Marzys` careful consideration of papal and episcopal statements on war and peace we watch a Christian conscience wrestling with moral dilemmas posed by the threat of war in a nuclear era. A special value of the article is the comparison of statements by French, German, and American bishops. To avoid arbitrariness, Marzys quotes documents at length. In this digest, documents readily available to english readers are often summarized. A key to documents appears at the end of the article.

Religious orders: God`s therapy for the church

Nama Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Theology Digest
Volume / Nomor Edisi : -
Nomor Halaman : 203-212
Abstraksi Narasi : Father Lohfink begins this essay, originally an address to the Wanderakademie fur Ordensleute in Cologne, Oct. 7-10, 1985 by quoting retiring Cardinal Konig of Vienna who said: ``The church is sick; it is fighting for its survival.`` While a shocking statement, many of us might add: ``Religious orders are sick too; they also are fighting for their survival.`` Though religious orders are faced with enormous problems today, we must never forget, says Lohfink, that if the God of Abraham can raise up children from stones he can also provide for the future of religious orders. The reader is encouraged to consult the original because, though considerably longer than the usual digest, much has been edited.

Nomor Halaman : 245-250
Abstraksi Narasi : The dramatic implications of genetic engineering for our time require that we pay careful attention to the ethical questions which it raises. According to Johannes Reiter, ``Somatic`` cell therapy (which seeks to cure specific genetic diseases and is not transferable to offspring) is ethically permissible, but ``germline`` gene therapy (the results of which are apparent only in suceeding offspring) is not. Human dignity shoud be the primary operative principle in all genetic research.

Nomor Halaman : 235-238
Abstraksi Narasi : ``Women ,`` says Barbel of Wartenberg (1984), ``are seeking a new language,n ew ways of expression, new theological ideas which are important for the whole church-however, they do so often on the perimeters of the church. The criticism of structures, systems and ways of experience created by males in the church and society point toward a`Copernican revolution,` the dimensions of which are only slowly becoming visible.`` hedwig Meyer-Wilmes-M. here presents her reflections on the present state of feminist theological research which, though diverse and at times controversial, seeks to further this ``revolution`` and establish a new relationship in the partnership between women and men.

Christians in conflict: the South African church

Nama Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Theology Digest
Volume / Nomor Edisi : -
Nomor Halaman : 213-215
Abstraksi Narasi : A South African theologian argues that the Christian church plays an important role in the socio-political conflict in South Africa because the Christian tradition dominates South African religion. However, the church is itself involved in the divisions plaguing the country. De Gruchy relates indigenization, ecumenism and evangelism to liberation and identifies them as critical issues that the church must face if it is to speak to the contemporary situation in South Africa.

Blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52)

Nama Pengarang : Jacques Dupont, Gruchy, John W. de, Hedwig Meyer-Wilmes-M, Johannes Reiter, Lohfink, Norbert, Zygmunt Marzys, Josef Neuner, Elisabeth Moltmann, Kasper, Walter
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : Theology Digest
Volume / Nomor Edisi : -
Nomor Halaman : 223-228
Abstraksi Narasi : The narrative of blind Bartimaeus comprises only seven verses in Mark`s gospel (10:46-52), compared to twenty for the Garasene demoniac (5:1-20) and sixteen for the epileptic child (9:14-29). Its significance, says Jacques Dupont, lies not only in the fact that it is the last miracle recorded in Mark (Jesus performs no miracles in Jerusalem), but more importantly in that it is attached to the process by which the blind beggar not only receives his sight but follows Jesus on the journey to Jerusalem, thus becoming an example for Christians called to walk Jesus` way.

Abstraksi Narasi : In the light of the present discussion of women in the church, especially participation of women in church of women in the church office, it is instructive to look back at history. According to A. Valerio, we find some interesting phenomena in the 10th-12th centuries on the role of women in the social, political, artistic and religious realms.
