Abstraksi Narasi : The following is a response to recent criticism in the German theological community of Heinrich Fries` and Karl Rahner`s book, Unity of the Churches: An Actual Possibility. Translated by Ruth C.L.Gritsch and Eric W. Gritsch. (Philadelphia/New York: Fortress Press/Paulist Press, 1983). While Neuner concentrates on Thesis II, knowledge of the other theses may prove helpful in understanding the overall controversy. The theses are: I. Fundamental Truths: scripture, the Apostles`, Nicene, and Constantinopolitan creeds. II. Principle of Faith: nothing is to be rejected decisively in one partner church that is binding in another, III. Partner churches can maintain their existing structures. IVa. Petrine Service: all partner churches acknowledge the right of the Petrine service as the concrete guarantor of unity. IVb. The pope commits himself to respect the independence of partner churches and declares that he will use his ex cathedra authority in a way that conforms juridically or in substance to a general council of the whole church. V. Episcopal Office: partner churches will have bishops as their heads. VI. Fraternal Exchange: partner churches will live in mutual fraternal exchange. VII. Recognition of Offices: all partner churches will ordain with prayer and the laying on of hands. VIII. There will be pulpit and altar fellowship between partner churches.

Abstraksi Narasi : To speak of ecumenism twenty years after Vatican II, says Heinrich Fries, is to speak of ecumenism today. While ecumenism is a very diverse phenomenon, it can be described and its grounds and motives investigated.

Abstraksi Narasi : It is incorrect, says Karl-Wolfgang Troger, to flatly accuse Islam of intolerance. On matters of tolerance and intolerance Islam is no better or worse than any other religion. References from the Koran are from The Holy Qur`an, 2nd edition, 1977. Translation and commentary by A. Yusuf Ali. American Trust Publications for The Muslim Students` Association of the United States and Canada. Each chapter or portion of the Koran is called a Sura, which means degree or step. Thus, Sura 2:213 means chapter 2 verse 213.

Abstraksi Narasi : The new Code of Canon Law, says Franz Greiner, delineates the duties and rights of the Christian faithful. However, the Code is sometimes vague, especially concerning the laity`s responsibility to propogate the message of salvation to everyone and to perfect the temporal order (Canon 225). Consequently, the laity look to the church`s leadership for help in fullfilling their apostolate.

The awakening of Lazarus

Nomor Halaman : 135-138
Abstraksi Narasi : The story of Lazarus has interested a wide variety of people down through the ages-the Fathers, poets, artists, exegetes and novelists. The evangelist himself, the ancient church and the church of the Middle Ages did not question the story`s facticity. However, it has been questioned since the Enlightenment. Is, asks Jacob Kremer, the gospel`s credibility lost for today`s reader if Lazarus` awakening can no longer be proven? Kremer attempts to answer this question and suggests ways for making this story relevant to all those who believe in Christ.

Human rights: Challenge to the churches

Nomor Halaman : 139-144
Abstraksi Narasi : Facing the truth not only of what the church has done to promote human rights, but also of the shadows in our history, says Aubert, will enable us to divest ourselves of any remnants of intolerance in regard to human rights. Without this divestiture the church is like Kierkegaard`s clown who ran to call villagers from the fields to help put out a fire, but because he had had no time to change clothes, the fieldworkers saw him only as a clown and gave no heed to his message-with the result that the entire village burned down. Aubert focuses on the Catholic Church in analyzing historical reasons for Christian failure to foster human rights.

Hope in Jesus` final coming

Volume / Nomor Edisi : -
Nomor Halaman : 149-154
Abstraksi Narasi : The credal article concerning Jesus` final coming in glory to judge the living and the dead has deeply embedded itself in the Christian conscience. In dogmatics this article belongs to the doctrine of the ``last things`` : resurrection of the dead, world judgment to eternal salvation or condemnation, a new heaven and a new earth. But despite its significance for the church`s practical life and faith this doctrine has not received adequate attention in dogmatic textbooks.
