| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Though, says Christian W. Troll, there are many deep and abiding differences between Islam and Christianity, we have entered a new period of history where dialog is essential. Faith in the divine plan for history and the Christian conviction that God has not ended the reconciliation and uniting of all things in Christ, are creative sources for hope as Christians and Muslimsseek to understand each other better. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The 1985 William L. Rossner Visiting Scholar Lecture was deliveredat Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Missouri, November 7, 1985. In 1985 much attention was devoted to the twentieth anniversary of the conclusion of Vatican II, probably the most important single event of Catholic Church history in this century. The questions receiving greatest attention were those relating to authority and structures. Everywhere one read discussions of the respective powers of the pope and bishops, the Holy See and episcopal conferences, the dioceses and the basic communities, bishops and priests, theologians, religious, laywomen and laymen. These questions were-and are-undoubtedly important and Dulles himself has often dealt with them in other writings. In this paper, however, he turns to what he considers an even more crucial question, one all but overlooked in the current discussion: Why the church? |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The character of Israel`s God was aniconic (i.e.,absence of images). But Israel`s aniconic God, says Walter Brueggemann, cannot be contained in purely religious categories. The aniconic God lives in polemical tension with the iconic (presence of images) character of the gods of the empire. Thus, the growing metaphors of Old Testament faith are essentially conflictual: aniconic versus iconic. Israel as an identifiable community was formed out of a dispute among the gods and conflicts-in-tradition. The attempt to find asingle theme or ``center`` for Old Testament theology excludes this tension. The decisive question then-and now-is the extent to which the community is able to bear God`s aniconic character and its social implications. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | In this lecture delivered at the Aquinas Institute of Theology, St. Louis, Missouri, January 28, 1986 (The Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas), sister Carla Mae Streeter, O.P., summarizes Thomistic spirituality, assesses the state of spirituality today and focuses on the though of Bernard Lonergan, S.J., an Aquinas scholar who proposes to do for our time nothing less than Thomas did for his: give us the new synthesis needed to move theology and ourselves into a new age and provide a way to heal the rift that exists between academic and spiritual theology. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The psalms, says Loyse Morard in this adaptation of her article, are more than a language of information and communication. They are a language of dialog and communion between the sinner and God. The sinner`s heart, purified through repentance, is the place where salvation is accomplished. The intention of the heart changes everything. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | In the social, political arena the principle of subsidiarity states that nothing is to be done a higher level that can be done as well or better at a lower level. But is this principle also applicable to the church itself? Some would say yes, provided there are ``adequate limitations.`` But, according to Kerber, the principle is applicable ``completely and without limitation.`` |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The exegete, says Gerhard Lohfink, has the responsibility to make clear that the church should avoid glory that is only heavenly or that concentrates on the principle that ``all glory is internal.`` At the same time, if the Christian church can no longer say out of its own experience, ``We have seen his glory in our communities,`` then the miracle at Cana has no meaning. To experience the wonders of Cana the Christian community must seek God`s will, not its own. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Scripture proclaims human beings have ``been created in the image and likeness of God.`` Scholars, scriptural as well as patristic, have interpreted this in various and sometimes very divergent ways. Their approaches have opened up insightful vistas for understanding the meaning of the human person, Christ and salvation. The present article proposes in part Irenaeus` view. It is significant not only because it applies image to our total composite of body and soul but because it professes to be the apostolic teachingof the Apostles. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | What follows was the Aquinas Lecture sponsored by Aquinas Institute at St. Louis University, January 28, 1985. The contemporary movement toward interpersonal relatedness, says Mary Ann Fatula, is not simply the ``effect`` of the Spirit`s activity in us. Rather, the very content of our inter-relatedness is in some sense the person of the Spirit present in us through love. After a brief overview of some contemporary Western intuitions on the Spirit`s role in openingus to relationship, Sister Fatula develops Aquinas` insights on the nature of love and the spirit`s personal identity in order to clarify why the Spirit is at the heart of our human actualization and thus of our eschatological fulfillment through love. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Polygamy in Africa was one of the most difficult problems faced by the first Christian missionaries. But despite efforts to combat polygamy through the ideal of monogamy, the question is far from settled. Benezet Bujo provides an overview of the ideal of polygamy in traditional Africa and then addresses the question of the task of the Christian proclamation and the future of polygamy. |
