| Abstraksi Narasi | : | It is now possible to obtain a fairly complete picture of Indonesian industrial development, based on the 1986 Economic Census and subsequent updates, the incorporation of the huge oil and gas sector, and the earlier industrial data base. The picture is one of dramatic growth and transformation since the late 1960s when Indonesia was one of least industrialised countries for its size. In this paper we examine the pattern and changing structure of industry, focusing on industry composition, regional industrialisation, ownership, scale and wages. Indonesia`s industrial transformation is evident not only in rapid output and employment growth, but also in the transition to more capital and skill-intensive industries, a narrowing in the earlier very large ( almost `dualistic`) productivity differentials, strong productivity and wage growth, a broadening of the industrial base outside Java, and a probable reduction in concentration levels (at least by establishment). |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This Paper examines possible kind of misclassification of those placed in the large `others` group in Indonesian labour force statistics, i. e. people registered as outside the labour force and neither attending school nor homemaking. It argues that a large proportion of those classified as `others` are unemployed, unpaid workers and people attending informal education, as well as those in transition between two educational institutions the paper discusses possible reasons for the remarkable differences between Census and labour force surveys in the reported size of the `other` group, and considers the consequences for statements on trends in open unemployment if adjustment is made for the high `others` share. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The largest rural resettlement program in the world today-transmigration in Indonesia-began for demographic reasons at the turn of the century, and was then referred to as `colonisation`. In post-independence years, it soon became apparent that the program should go beyond organised population movement and assume the broader purposes of national security, regional development and improved livelihood for farmers who either were landless, wanted to own more land, were keen to work as contract labourrers at plantation sites, or had lost their lands through natural disasters or major construction works. Wonogiri`s sponsored Bedol Desa program belongs to the last category and lasted from 1976 to 1981. This article examines the motivations and experience of stayers and movers from one `sending` and one `reiving` area in the scheme. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The development of markets for maize, soybean and groundnut over the last ten years has been characterised by increasing commercialisation and increasing market differentiation, because of the diversity of end uses. Research conducted by the Department of Agriculture in 1987 and 1988 confirmed earlier findings that commercialisation has not led to opportunities at farm level to expand returns through quality improvement. At trader and factory levels, though, the market rewards qualities required for specific end uses.Ffindings clearly indicate that market development is commodity specific and that generalisation across the three crops encounters difficulties. The significance of imports was found to be different among the crops. The role of contract harvesting varies independently of the degree of commercialisation; its extent is important in identifying who benefits from post-harvest research. the informal sector was found to be of particular importance in soybean. It was concluded that the only external intervention which would increase farm income was the introduction of specific varietis, which find market rewards from specific users. Large grain size is rewarded in groundnut, while the tahu and tempe indutries both require specific soybean varieties. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The links between Indonesia and Johor, Malaysia, across the narrow straits have been strong for centuries. Many Johoreans trace their origins to various islands in the Indonesian archipelago. In recent years the presence of large numbers of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia has become the focus of media and political debate; it is seen not only as undermining working conditions but as aggravating fragile ethnic relations within Malaysia. the aim of this article is to examine the presence and employment of Indonesians in the southern area of Johor, and the responses of government and the public to this phenomenon. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Information from the Patanas survey of 1983 / 1984 was used to estimate frontier production functions for rice farmers from four villages in West Java. The results indicate that rice farmers in these regions were technically efficient in their rice production. |
