| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Bangladesh hovered between democracy and dictatorship in 2007. January elections were postponed, emergency rule was declared, and an army- supported caretaker government suspended political activity and launched a massive anti-corruption campaign. Former Prime Ministers Begum and Sheikh Wajed were jailed. The government pledged to hold elections by late 2008 after institutional reforms are in place. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The year 2007 has not brought much hope for Afghans whose country remains in the grip of increasing violence and Taliban insurgency, both hampering reconstruction. The increasing levels of opium production have provided a boost to the growing illicit economy and also to the insurgency. Governmental institutions remain frail and are largely ineffective outside the capital. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The post-crisis economic reforms in South Korea have been uneven. While financial reform has been thoroughly carried out, corporate restructuring and labor market flexibility have not been successfully implemented to transform the micro-behavior of the chaebol and labor unions. The unevenness of economic reform is attributed to sociopolitical dynamics. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Some analysts have attributed the 1997 Asian financial crisis to the actions of interventionist development East Asian states that had allegedly distorted the operation of the market. This view, however, does not apply to the Philippine case, as the country has never been construed as developmental. In fact, this article argues, the Asian financial created the opportunity for the revival of populism/neo-populism in 21 st century Philippine politics. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Taiwan was a typical Capitalist Developmental State (CDC) from the 1960s through the 1980s. In this article the effects of the Asian Financial Crisis and the two political shocks that it sandwiched are assessed. We find that Taiwans`s CDS structure has been seriously undermined for political, not for economic, reasons. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Singapore`s reaction to the Asian financial crisis suggests that while there were signs of deepening liberalization, there was little evidence of profound retreat from the developmental state paradigm. The crisis generated an obsession with "globalization compatibility": aggressive externalization of private and state-led economic activities and a gradualist strategy for building economic community abroad. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Political reform and the Asian financial crisis set the pretexts for the Thai political crisis. The financial crisis spawned certain big businesses that survived the economic downturn, while the 1997 Constitution eased their ability to make political inroads. In the end, Thaksin`s business-centered administration so disrupted the traditional bases of society and government that it was overthrown by a coup d`etat in 2006 |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | A careful review of the Asian crisis in 1977 reveals that despite widespread denunciation, hedge funds and other portfolio investors played only a minor role in the making of the crisis. To maintain financial sector stability, therefore, governments should focus on avoiding inconsistent policies rather than try to identify a "bad" class of investors and limit their activities |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The China-driven rise of Asia to the center of the global political economy since the Asian financial crisis under systems of political economy manifestly different from those of the Washington Consensus poses a challenge that has been met by neither helter-skelter Asian regionalism nor by American strategic inattentiveness of the past decade. |
