| Abstraksi Narasi | : | At first sight, 2006 was one of the better years within the history of the new kingdom of Cambodia, which began in 1993. | Abstraksi Narasi | : | Political life in Brunei is frequently cast as stultifying, with activity diverted from political parties and civil society to the sultan and his coterie. | Abstraksi Narasi | : | Asia lost its spot in the media limelight this past year, having survived a year bookended by the December 26, 2004, Aceh tsunami (claiming some 300.000 lives across asia) and the 7.6-point Kashmir eartquake (ca. 80.000 fatalities) in October 2005. True, Indonesia was again struck by natural disaster in the form of a quake near Yogyakarta in may 2006 measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale. But although the damage to principles ancient temple sites) was reportedly equivalent to that of the December 2004 tsunami, the toll in lives was more modest (viz., some 4.600 killed, 10.000 injured). Thus, the main storyline for the region was one of economic and political development rather than epics of surviving human or natural disaster. yet, the narrative led in several different directions. |
