| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Based essentially on sources emanating from the Chinese world, this article attempts to provide an overview of the Persian marchants who visited the various harbours of South China through the ages. the archaeological finds of the last decades show that sporadic relations between South China and the Persian world occured before the coming of Islam and they would deserve to be analysed in the light of the dificulties encountered by merchants following the northern road. From the Tangonwards, thanks to various factors in China proper as well as in the Persian Golf, the maritime trade with the Muslim world developed tremendously. It even intensified during the second half of the 8th century in connection with the set-back of China in transoxiana and in the area of Kashgar on the one hand, and with the foundation of the capital of the Abassids in Bagdad in 762 and the rise of maritime trade in the harbour of Bassora on the other. For the first time we clearly perceive in written sources the formation of Arabo-Persian communities in various harbours of South China among others Canton and Yangzhou. With the fall of Kaifeng in 1126, the song Dynasty lost its acces to Central Asia; after the establishment of the new capital in hangzhou the dynasty launched a new policy that was oriented towards maritime trade. for different reasons the Mongols developed a similar policy, relying extensively on Persians and other Muslims for commercial as well as administrative purposes. thanks to this policy the Persians could the economic life of the harbour of Quangzhou, similarly, various measures taken by the new Ming dynaty caused the decline of these Arabo-persian communities in South China. If the Chinese sources are silent regarding the economic life of these communities, they neverthelles allow us to gain interesting insights into their social life and the way they gradually became integrated into the local society. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This article first sums up Portuguese terminology in naming ancient and modern Persians and Parsees, as well as the knowledge of the Portuguese, at the end of the fifteenth century, about the populations of Asia and about Islam. Then it reviews the presence of Persians on the shores of the Indian ocean during the sixteenth century according to contemporary portuguese sources. These sources are numerous and the geographical area taken into consideration, from East Africa to Southeast Asia, is immense, so that this extremely detailed panorama regards hundreds of places and people. Persians are ubiquitous, their role is important not only in commerce but also in politics, administration and military matters, and their linguistic and cultural influence is considerable. Portuguese documents for that period do not overturn our understanding of the topic, but they complement Persian sources in many ways and supply many new data and details about characters and events poorly documented. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This contribution aims at identifying the various fields-archeology, arts, language, religion, and literature-where Persian culture, across the centuries, has been an obvious source of inspiration for Nusantarian civilisations. its purpose is not to offer a comprehensive compilation of the available sources, but rather to expose the lines of force which have governed the contacts between those two cultural areas and which could constitute the main research axes for a much needed further analysis. |
