| Abstraksi Narasi | : | An analysis of the ceramics and earthen wars found on the sit of Mojopahit reveals a highly developed taste for ornamental beauty. A large amount of the material was imported from China, Vietnam, Thailand and the MiddleEast, and particular attention was given to colour. Among the decorative ceramics are tiles of various forms, primarily adorned with floral patterns, which were produced in the north of present-day Vietnam between th second half of the XVth and the early XVIth centuries. The origin of such tiles is to be found in the Persian tradition: it is after having seen tiles from the Middle-east that people in Mojopahit ordered similar ones from Vietnam. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | In 1922 Paul Ravaisse published two Arabic inscriptions in the Journal Asiatique. Since that time their assumed Cham provenance has been taken for granted and they have been taken for granted and they have been referred to abundantly as the sole direct sources for the reconstruction of a Muslim preserence in Champa in the eleventh century. However a new analysis, based on multifarious elements of comparison, makes it possible to trace with a high degree of probability the provenance of the first inscription, dated 431/1039, to a workshop in the Tunisian city of Kairouan. Meanwhil a critical study of the second, undated, inscriptin shows that it is difficult to place it at any date prior to the thirteenth century. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This article presents the facsimile edition, transcription and translation of a Malay manuscript written in Nanga Kayan (West Borneo) in 1839. This text, probably writtn for th use of merchants and collectors, illustrates and describs with much detail the Chinese jars which were availabe in the region in the early nineteenth century. It gives the names of more than forty kinds of jars, enumerates the characteristics of the main types, and gives an estimate of their comparative prices. This text is therefore one of the rare attempts ever made to give a systematic classification of such jars. It is even more interesting that it should have been don in Malay. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Building techniques are determined by constraints due to the structure of the materials involved and independent of th architects` will. However, there is no strict borderline between the materials and some ways of assembling wood have been used with stones. On Java, wood has been the most frequently used material for a long time, but as the buildings have not survived, the relevant techniques can only be observed on their representations on the reliefs of the Borobudur (8th c.) and those of East Javanese temples (13th c. onwards). Stones used for erecting the Borobudur were collected in the surrounding rivers. Their cutting was much inspired by that of the stones used in Sri Langka monuments. A second wave of hinduization in the 9th c. brought about new building techniques, including that of double-facing walls. Bricks were oten used during the Majapahit period. They were of bad quality, so that they had to be ground against each other in order to be closely adjusted. Inscriptions on Candi Sewu and Plaosan give an insight into the life of the worksites, in particular the retakings and the multiplication of small contractors. |
