| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Decentralization of education on district (Kabupaten) is an effort to substitute the centralized system. By this decentralization, the program, process and assessment of educational activities will meet the district`s need to develop its human resources, regional growth and other needs based on its own geographical and cultural characteristics. Institution most responsible to the decentralization is the school in cooperation with parents and community. The education officers serve as facilitator, supervisors, and communicators to the superordinates. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | In the past few years English has been taught at the elementary school level. However, many schools in Surabaya have Introduced English in their curriculum at the pre-school level. In this paper the writer describes a Semi- International School in Surabaya as a model, because English is given since the play group level where students are about 2-3 years old. Thus, the focus of this paper is on be the reasons why English is taught at such an early age, constructivism as the theoretical base of the school curriculum, the English program based on topic-centered learning and activity-based approach and the facitities needed to support the whole teaching-learning process at the school. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The 1994 English syllabus has long been implemented at schools. However, information on how far the implementation of the syllabus has been successful is not sufficiently available. The writer thinks information about the implementation of the syllabus is necessary to guaranttee success of the teaching English at school. This study explores the SMU English teachers` competence in developing the teaching materials and strategies according to the 1994 English syllabus. It is affirmed that teaching materials and strategies are crucial in the learning teaching process and are not separable from the syllabus. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The spirit of togetherness and cooperation seems to be declining among some of Indonesian communities. The Idependence Day celebration can be used as a momentum to strengthen the spirit through various competitions for children. Traditional games which are commonly played for competitions can potentially be developed into educational games. The Gotong Royong Run presented here has been developed and modified from a traditional game called Lari Memindahkan Bendera (Flag-moving Race). The game is intended for pre-school and elementary school children to train skills of working cooperatively. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The objective of this study was to obtain an empirical evidence concerning the attitudes of teachers of elementary schools in Pekalongan Sub District, East Lampung District toward the implementaton of the students active learning (CBSA) approach in teching-learning activities. The data were collected through questionnaire and observation, and were analyzed by t-test. The results indicated that there were significant differences in attitudes between young teachers and old ones, between teachers with a bachelor`s degree and those without the degree, and between teachers with less teaching experience and those with more teaching experience. Additionally, there were no significant differences in teachers` attitudes in terms of sex and training experience. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This study was aimed at comparing rhetorical strategies used in the Indonesian persuasive essays written by students majoring in Indonesian and those majoring in English. Two groups were involved: the third-year students of the Department of Indonesian Language and Literature and the fourth-year students of the English Department of the State University of Malang. They were asked to written persuasive essays on whether violence on TV programs should be restricted. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the rhetorical strategies in Indonesian persuasive essays written by students majoring in Indonesian and those written by students majoring in English. In general, the essays written by the students majoring English were more successful than those written by the students majoring in Indonesian in terms of the superstructure of argument, the Toulmin model of informal reasoning, and the persuasive appeals. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Teacher research (i.e action research) has gained acceptance as a tool for teacher professional development. In spite of its increasing popularity in language classrooms, concerns have been raised in the implementation of teacher research, such as issues of quality, sustainability, the development of standards, and accessibility. In the Indonesian context, the unprofessional working conditions and the education background of most teachers have made it difficult for teachers to sustain and access research. Since changing the former appears beyond the aim of this article, it is suggested that teacher education institutions focus on the latter, revisiting the curriculum of teacher education to provide more research components. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | Beginning 1996, trainings for Biology, Chemistry, Geography and Economics teachers (and again in 1998) were conducted to help them integrate river as learning resources into their subject matter. Students from 29 SMUs along the Brantas River are brought to the river to learn to check the quality of water chemically and biologically, and to measure some physical conditions of the water. The economical use of the river were also observed and discussed. It is expected that the students will be aware of the quality of water and of the value of water resources. Competitions have been conducted to increase students` enthusiasms in studying the river and its environment. As a result of these activities, a network of schools around the river has been initiated which was called the Communication Network of Schools doing the checking of the Water Quality. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | The objectives of this case study were to discribe comprehensively how the SEAMEO-VOCTECH Regional Center conducted the school adoption program, to gain information from teachers and related persons on the implementation of the programs, and to identify various interventions for achieving maximum outputs. The study employed a naturalistic qualitative method with Jerudong primary school and the VOCTECH Center as the major sites of the study. Three methods of data collection were enumeration techniques, participant observation and in-depth interview. The findings indicate how beneficial the program was to the school, and the program appears to be suitable to Indonesian schools, whose communities, conditions, and potencies vary. |

| Abstraksi Narasi | : | This research aims to investigate and then describe students" efforts in acquiring literature sources to support their study, lecturers" activities to show the source books to be read by students as indicated in the course outline of the subjects they are responsible for, and the availability of the books which are needed by the students in the library of FKIP UNSRI Indralaya. The sample consisted of 90 students of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Sriwijaya University. The data colleced through decumentation study and quetionnaire were descriptvely analyzed. The result shows that students` efforts are good enough, but lecturers` activities and the availability of the books are not satisfactory. |
