THE USE OF COMMERCIAL ADVERTISEMENT TO TEACH UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSE CONTEXT

Pengarang: -
Abstrak: This research aimed to propose multimodal-based English teaching through video for university students majoring in marketing management through project-based learning. Teaching English for university students are belonging to the field of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). It needs special treatments due to the fact that ESP students have different needs for English use for their future jobs, since the industrial revolution 4.0 typically affected the economic area. For presenting the research, the qualitative research design was employed. This research used interpretive analysis in the context of discourse analysis. The commercial advertisement video was analyzed in terms of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and semiotic features of multimodal discourse analysis. The analysis results of the video show that semiotic features are more powerful than linguistics aspects in promoting goods well. The video is expectedly used to teach language for promotion to the university students, particularly in marketing management majors. The teaching-learning process would be guided by the use of project-based learning method so that the outcomes would be in the form of the promotional video which employs both linguistics and semiotic features.

THE VALIDATION OF INAA METHOD IN THE RELATION WITH RABBIT SYSTEM OF RSG-GAS IRRADIATION FACILITY

Pengarang: Ratnawati, Elisabeth,M. Th Rina
Abstrak: The validation of INAA method has been done by standard reference material. This validation of INAA method is implemented based on the criteria of SNI 19-17025-2005: 5.4.5.1. Based on the result of this work will be shown the relation between performance of irradiation facility used by sample activated with the result of accuration and precision test. The samples ware activated in the rabbit system (RS1, RS2, RS3, and RS4). The result of validation showed that the sample was activated in the RSI, RS2, and RS3 gave good result, but RS4 is not so good. The significant deference result is not been influenced by position of irradiation facility in the reactor, because of the neutron flux measurement gave same result for the all position (RS1, RS2, RS3, and RS4) is 10 13ncm's".

!nter-transcriber reliability for two systems of prosodic annotation: ToBI (Tones and Break Indices) and RaP (Rhythm and Pitch)

Pengarang: -
Abstrak: Speech researchers often rely on human annotation of prosody to generate data to test hypotheses and generate models. We present an overview of two prosodic annotation systems: ToBI (Tones and Break Indices) (Silverman et al., 1992), and RaP (Rltythm and Pitch) (Dilley & Brown, 2005), whichwas designed to address several limitations of ToBI. The paper reports two largescale studies of inter-transcriber reliability for ToBI and RaP. Comparable reliability for both systems wqs obtained for a variety of prominence- and boundary-related agreement cotegories. These results help to establish RaP as an alternative to ToBI.for reseqrch and technology applications.

" I Won't Last Three Weeks": Preservice Science Teachers Reflect on Their Student- Teaching Experiences

Pengarang: -
Abstrak: In many teacher preparation programs, student teaching serves as a culminating event that bridges academic coursework and the realities of classroom teach- ing. Therefore, it represents a significant aspect of preservice teacher education. This study explored student teaching as it was experienced by 13 middle and sec- ondary science preservice teachers. Qualitative techniques were used to analyze Individual interviews, group seminar sessions, and written reflections to construct a phenomenological account of student teaching as experienced by the preservice teachers. The aim was to construct a picture of the shared experiences of these stu dent teachers to help understand how they struggled, succeeded, and learned as a part of their classroom practica. These findings are then used to draw implications for science teacher education.

" Science Talks" in Kindergarten Classroooms:Improving Classroom Practice Through Collaborative Action Research

Pengarang: Trinugraha, Yosafat. Hermawan
Abstrak: In this study we described an action research project enacted by a veteran Kindergarten teacher (Sarah) in the context of a professional development program. Over the course of a year, Sarah collaborated with other teachers in a small group to investigate how to use `Science Talks` to promote student learning in Kindergarten classrooms. A Problem-Based Learning approach was adopted to guide the collaborative action research. Based on a rich set of data sources, we concluded that Sarah`s action research improved student learning and led to her own professional growth. We also identified important conditions in support of action research.

" The Snake Raised Its Head": Content Novelty Alters the Reading Performance of Students At Risk for Reading Disabilities and ADHD

Pengarang: Fandi,Zakaria, Teddy Marcus
Abstrak: The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of story novelty (active verbs, less familiar characters, vivid adjectives, and surprising story endings) on the reading comprehension of 48 seven- to 11-year-old boys without clinical diagnoses of learning disabilities. The optimal stimulation theory provided the basis of the study, predicting differential response to novelty by 3 groups of equivalent-1Q boys, who were at risk for reading disabilities (RD, 16), at risk for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD, 16), and typically developing (n-16). Across conditions, the RD group performed worse than typical students in the comprehension of individually graded passages and worse than the ADHD group in causality comprehension. More important, the predicted interaction in support of theory documented better reading performance in the high than the low-novelty condition for both at-risk groups and, specifically, in causality and inferential comprchcesion. In other words, it was the low-novelty reading condition that exacerbated group differences in reading comprehension. The novelty based gains were interpreted as byproducts of increased student activation, facilitating attention for the at-risk ADHD group, who have a greater need for stimulation (novelty), and for students at risk for RD to combat fatigue associated with skill deficits.

"ADIEU" BERTEOLOGI BERSAMA DERRIDA

Pengarang: -
Abstrak: This essay, first delivered as a lecture in Teater Utan Kayu community, is an extended meditation on the French word adieu a commonword which, in the hands of Emmanuel levinas and jacques derrida, became a philosopheme. Through the polysemy of adier (can be written as adieu, a-Dieu, or d-Diu but with the same pronunciation, like Derrida's famous ffirance) i try this essay to develop a new set of vocabularies to do theology witb Derrida. John D. Caputo's analysis, especially in his magisterial work, The Prayrs ard Tears of lacqtu Denida, gave illuminating insights into the structure of Derrida's religion without religion that became the focus of this essay. I suggest that by following Derrida's deconstruction move, i.e., "to philosophize with hammer",'we can make a rupture in the Enlightenment wall and enable us again to speak about God, of God,md to God (a-dieu0
