Abstrak: Salah satu misteri hidup Yesus yang menarik untuk ditelusuri adalah masa kecil Yesus bersama orang tua-Nya di Nazaret. Keempat Injil tidak mengisahkan apa yang dilakukan Yesus semasa kecil sebelum berusia dua belas tahun. Kisah tentang masa kecil-Nya hanya ada saat Ia ditemukan orang tua-Nya sedang bercakap-cakap dengan alim ulama di Bait Allah di Yerusalem (Luk 2:41-51).

Abstrak: This article considers the controversial nature of truth in George Orwell's Nineteen Eight-Four, both within the novel itself and in critical responses to it. It suggests a new account of the nature of the control exercised by the Party and the resultant schizophrenia induced by "doublethink"; the Party imposes two different and competing attitudes to truth on the people of Oceania. These might be described as "truth-committed" and "non truth-committed" attitudes (Routledge and Chapman 2003). When we are free to choose between these two attitudes, both can form part of our everyday, non-pathological encounters. The non truth-committed approach is typical of encounters with literary texts, and this article argues that such an approach can enable the reader to dispense with too strong a concern for the factual veracity of Orwell's apparent predictions, and to concentrate on the literary qualities of his novel.

Abstrak: Penemuan situs candi Hindu yang diduga berasal dari abad IX atau X di lokasi pembangunan perpustakaan di kompleks Kampus Terpadu Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) pada Ahad, 13 Desember 2009 yang lalu, menuai kontroversi. Sebuah hal yang menarik dalam kasus penemuan situs candi yang diduga peninggalan kerajaan Mataram Kuna ini, adalah sebuah tarik menarik kepentingan yang dimiliki UII dan Balai Pelestarian Peninggalan Purbakala (BP3). UII harus menghentikan pembangunan proyek itu harus menunggu kepastian dari BP3 terkait kelanjutan pembangunan perpustakaan tersebut. Sedangkan BP3 merasa bimbang perihal izin pemanfaatan situs candi tersebut ke depan oleh pihak kampus, mengingat dalam penemuan situs candi yang lain, tidak diperbolehkan membangun bangunan lain hingga radius tertentu. Tarik ulur inilah mengawali gagasan ini karena memang kasus ini membutuhkan solusi yang cepat dan tepat demi maslahat UII dan BP3. Selain itu, gagasan ini diangkat dalam rangka memunculkan wacana baru di dunia Arkeologi tentang model konservasi yang adaptif dengan perkembangan zaman. Konsep infill design dan kontekstualisme yang dapat diterapkan adalah dengan membuat penambahan massa berupa bangunan perpustakaan di atas bangunan candi dengan bahan yang menyatu dengan candi. Bagian bawah massa bangunan dibuat terbuka sehingga candi tetap mendapatkan pencahayaan dan penghawaan alami. Bagian lantai bangunan yang menutupi candi dapat mendukung perancangan lighting sehingga candi tetap terlihat indah di malam hari. Dengan demikian, candi tetap dapat dijaga kelestariannya dan bangunan baru, yakni perpustakaan, dapat memiliki landmark yang bernilai historis tinggi. Inilah konsep pengembangan desain yang `humanis` yang solutif untuk Candi Pustakasala.

Abstrak: Given the myriad mandates and policies related to math and language arts education, U.S. public elementary teachers must care about teach ing science for it to actually happen. Consequently, this study sought to explore the impacts of assignments in a science methods course supporting teacher candidates (TCs) in caring about effective elemen tary science instruction (EESI). Different from other teacher disposi tions, this study defines caring about elementary EESI as having the ability to articulate the value it provides to students and society and internalize the importance such that one is driven to teach science at a high level, even if they must overcome obstacles. Data were col lected via two care-focused assignments, a pre/post-survey, and an interview. Findings indicate that a) for many, this course was the first time they realized the value of EESI; b) the care-focused assignments in the course allowed TCs to flesh out arguments as to why elementary science is important; and c) TCs were more assertive and specific about actions they will take in the future to support and/or advocate for EESI. Explicitly attending to the notion of caring about EESI in a science methods course is necessary if instructors are to support TCs in teach ing EESI.

Abstrak: Inquiry Into Life Science is a content biology course expressly for the fulfillment of the General Education life science laboratory couse requirement of elementary education majors at this university. The couse in modeled on the Teaching Standars and Content Standads of the National Science Education Srandards [National Research Council. (1996) The national scence education standards. Washington. DC: Natinal Academy Press]. The change in intentions of 61 Fall 2002 enrolles were studied using triangulated quantitative and qualitative techniques to seek specific changes regarding self - perceived effectiveness as a biology teacher, self - perceived subject matter command, curriculum development competence, and pedagogical skills, all linked to developing intentons. Significant growth in all four domains was observed. These findings contribute to the research - based call for inquiry - oriented college science coursework for preservice teachers.
