The policy relevance of personality traits.

Pengarang : Bleidorn
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : American Psychologist
Volume / Edisi : 74 (No. 9)
Halaman : 1056-1067
Abstrak : Personality traits are powerful predictors of outcomes in the domains of education, work, relationships, health, and well-being. The recognized importance of personality traits has raised questions about their policy relevance, that is, their potential to inform policy actions designed to improve human welfare. Traditionally, the use of personality traits in applied settings has been predicated on their ability to predict valued outcomes, typically under the assumption that traits are functionally unchanging. This assumption, however, is both untrue and a limiting factor on using personality traits more widely in applied settings. In this article, we present the case that traits can serve both as relatively stable predictors of success and actionable targets for policy changes and interventions. Though trait change will likely prove a more difficult target than typical targets in applied interventions, it also may be a more fruitful one given the variety of life domains affected by personality traits. Ventricular Tachycardia in Anteroseptal STEMI

Pengarang : Luzelia Marta Sequeira Saldanha
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : CDK Cermin dunia kedokteran
Volume / Edisi : 52 (No. 8)
Halaman : 531-536
Abstrak : Fatal ventricular tachyarrhythmias such as ventricular tachycardia (VT) or ventricular fibrillation (VF) are the most frequent cause of sudden cardiac death. In-hospital mortality of VT in STEMI was a 4- to 5-fold increase compared to STEMI without ventricular tachyarrhythmia; VT and VF were also initially thought to be the most common causes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Late VT (occurs beyond 24-48 hours of STEMI onset) is a predictor for worse prognosis. Case: A 49-year-old female presented with continuous chest pain for 5 days and a rapid heartbeat (palpitation) for 4 days before hospital admission. Initial examination revealed VT and ST elevation on ECG, leading to a diagnosis of anteroseptal STEMI with VT. Treatment included aspirin, clopidogrel, heparin, isosorbide dinitrate, bisoprolol, and simvastatin. The VT resolved about 2 hours after the initial treatment, and the evolution of STEMI (on ECG) was observed. Conclusion: Early recognition and prompt treatment for VT patients can prevent hemodynamic instability and reduce mortality.

Pengarang :
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : American Psychologist
Volume / Edisi : 74 (No. 9)
Halaman : 1053-1055
Abstrak : The APA Awards for Distinguished Scientific Early Career Contributions to Psychology recognize psychologists who have demonstrated excellence early in their careers and have held a doctoral degree for no more than 9 years. One of the 2019 award winners is Wiebke Bleidorn "for innovative work on when and why personality changes in adulthood. Wiebke Bleidorn’s research has helped uncover the mechanisms—both biological and sociocultural— that underlie personality stability and change. Through the creative use of sophisticated methods, she has helped resolve competing theoretical models of personality change. Using longitudinal, cross-cultural, and behavioral genetic designs, her research has disentangled the more universal effects of biological maturation from cultural influences and life experiences on personality development." Environmental neuroscience.

Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : American Psychologist
Volume / Edisi : 74 (No. 9)
Halaman : 1039-1052
Abstrak : Environmental neuroscience is an emerging field devoted to the scientific study of brain-mediated, bidirectional relationships between organisms and their social and physical environments. A key feature of environmental neuroscience is the rigorous quantification of environmental features that affect the brain and subsequent behavior. In addition, environmental neuroscience considers factors that vary across multiple temporal and spatial scales that interact to produce behavior (e.g., synapses, neural circuits, cognition, local social interactions, citywide social interactions, citywide physical structures). Environmental neuroscientists then measure the spatial and temporal dynamics of the interactions between different levels of analysis. For example, we demonstrate through hierarchical systems theory and mathematical modeling how interacting with urban greenspace may reduce psychopathology via improvements in neurocognitive functioning, which, in turn, may increase social interactions. This example illustrates how different levels of analysis (e.g., neurocognitive factors, the physical environment, and the social environment) may be combined to understand behavior in novel ways. In addition, we advocate for the collection of data across these scales and measuring their interactions, which will generate rich data sets that will continue to yield insights as new ways to model these complex multilevel systems are developed. We believe that examining all of these levels of analysis at different temporal and spatial scales in addition to modeling their relationships will lead to advances in understanding behavior. Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV): Clinical Features and Management

Pengarang : -
Nama Majalah/Jurnal : CDK Cermin dunia kedokteran
Volume / Edisi : 52 (No. 8)
Halaman : 526-530
Abstrak : Human Metapneumovirus has recently gained global attention due to an outbreak in China. HMPV is an RNA virus of the Pneumoviridae family, a respiratory pathogen generally occuring seasonally and causes periodic epidemic. HMPV is transmitted through droplets, with the virus incubating for about three to five days, varying between individuals. Its symptoms are difficult to differentiate from symptoms by human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) infection. Common clinical symptoms experienced by HMPV patients include fever, cough, upper respiratory tract infection, or lower respiratory tract infection. HMPV can infect all age groups, but symptoms are more severe in infants, the elderly, and patients with comorbidities or immunosuppression. Real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) remains the primary modality for diagnosing HMPV infection. Therapy is supportive as no vaccine or causal therapy is available, such as antipyretics, oxygen supplementation, and fluid hydration therapy. Several studies related to the management of HMPV are continued to be searched.
