Abstrak: "Don't know" (DK) responses to interview questions are conceptually heterogeneous, and may represent uncertainty or clear statements about the contents of memory. A study examined the subjective intent of DK responses in relation to the objective status of information queried, in the context of memory distorting procedures. Participants viewed a video and responded to answerable and unanswerable questions phrased in misleading or nonmisleading formats, while hypnotized or not hypnotized. Sub- jective meanings of DK responses were queried, and a recognition measure assessed the contents of memory. Lower DK and accuracy rates were consistently associated with unanswerable and misleading questions. One-third of DK responses were statements that the information had no not presented. When these were recoded, accuracy estimates for answerable questions decreased and more so for hypnotized participants. These results demonstrate that DK responses convey different types of information, thus accuracy estimates in studies that permit DK responses may be misestimated. Robust risks associated with asking unanswerable questions and asking questions at all were observed. Implications for working with DK responses during interviews are discussed.

Abstrak: Dunia kerja adalah area bagi individu menunjukkan kualitas dirinya dalam berbagai hal. Dunia kerja menjadi ajang mengeksplorasi kompetensi diri, menciptakan sesuatu dari ide dan pemikirannya, mengktualisasikan segenap kemampuan diri yang berorientasi pada kemajuan dirinya dan insititusi tempatnya bekerja. Dunia kerja juga merupakan tempatnya individu berkompetisi dengan individu lainnya dalam konteks mempertahankan kualitas diri untuk dapat bertahan sebagai bagian terbaik dari institusi tempatnya bekerja. Demikian halnya dengan pustakawan yang kini telah diakui sebagai profesi yang tidak setiap orang bisa memasuki dunia keprofesian ini tanpa memenuhi persyaratan tertentu. Kehandalan pustakawan ini menjadi titik maju keprofesiannya yang kemudian diorientasikan pada kemampuan mempertahankan kualitas diri. Inilah yang disebut dengan LIPSTIC-nya pustakawan dalam tulisan ini, yakni suatu skill yang mengarah pada Listening, Informatin acceptance, Public relation, Social relationship, Time management, Interpersonal, dan Communication skill. Dan tujuh aspek ini pula yang menjadi bagian dari softskill.

Abstrak: The paper discusses the signification perocess on myths in Wole Soyinka' a Death and the King's Horseman. It uses Barhers symptomatic reading theory to explan the Bolekaja's ceritique of the choice of language and from pf the play. The signification within the paly under study is manly controlle by connotative code apearing as myth system. Both the connotators (English Language and Western dramaturgy) are the sympoms that requre attention in order to reveal the underlving structure of the play.

Abstrak: The objective of this article is to explore the identity construction by students with invisible disabilities as disclosed in medical consultations at a university health center. In particular, I work on the assumption that analysing the discursive processes through which students with invisible disabilities construct, negotiate and resist their roles and identities may contribute to a better understanding of living and studying with an invisible condition. Taking a discourse analytic approach, I consider identity as a dynamic and negotiable process that takes place in specific Interactional occasions. The findings have shown that these students sometimes construct contested identities as patients, students, or experts during medical consultations, responding to conflicting expectations of others and their own.

Abstrak: Relying on data both from recent TESOL Certificate trainees and from experienced teachers, this paper examines ways in which a focus on survival during TESOL Certificate courses indicates a performance-based philosophy of teacher education and, ultimately, a preference for native speakers, both of which are inconsistent with the changing global ELT market.

Abstrak: This article traces the long-running conflict between the interests of 'Language and 'Literature within English studies in Britain, using as springboard a letter from C. S. Lewis (then professor of Medieval and Renaissance Literature), to Angus McIntosh (then professor of English Language and General Linguistics). Written in 1961 when 'Lang. & Lit.' hostilities were at their height, the letter points two ways: back to old battles in Schools of English between philologists and literary scholars, historians and critics, and forward to continuing disputes about the contribution of linguistics to literary criticism. The main focus is on the period 1957-1977, before the impact of structuralism and poststructuralism diverted the attention of literary scholars, but during the development of stylis- tics as a method of analysing literary texts. Mcintosh emerges as a pioneering figure in the struggle to achieve an effective integration of literary and linguistic studies.

Abstrak: This paper contributes to empirical knowledge of citizen participation as a communicative event, by analyzing discursive tensions in interviews between civil servants and citizen-parents, that are part of a participatory process on how to mitigate violence in a suburban area in Sweden. Citizen participation events are increasingly initiated by public institutions in Western societies. Research, however, shows that goals of participatory processes often conflict with formal decision-making structures and institutional boundaries. Yet, how such tensions play out on the level of interaction is little researched. This study therefore analyzes discursive practices deployed by civil servants and how these construct characteristic tensions for the interviews. Three practices are identified: (1) pursuing the initial question, (2) cueing an institutional frame, and (3) epistemic positioning of the parents. These practices, being guided by an institutional agenda, create tensions both to the parents’ lifeworld and for the ideals of the participatory method itself

Abstrak: Sepanjang 2008-2016, PT Dirgantara Indonesia mengalirkan duit kepada sejumlah jenderal dan perwira menengah di Kementrian Pertahanan dan Tentara Nasional Indonesia lewat perusahaan rekanan. Fulus dalam bentuk rupiah dan dolar itu juga diberikan kepada pejabat di Kementrian Sekretariat Negara hingga anggota Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat. Total upeti mencapai Rp 178,98 miliar. Duit itu merupakan imbalan atas 79 kontrak dari pemberi kerja, lembaga pemilik anggaran yang disebut sebagai "end user", yang sebagian di antaranya untuk pengadaan pesawat dan helikopter. Total kontrak dari pemberi kerja mencapai Rp 3,052 trilun, US$ 374,85 juta, dan 74,31 juta euro---atau totalnya sekitar Rp 10 triliun  

Abstrak: We consider a setting in which a firm uses residual income to motivate a manager's investment decision. Textbooks often recommend adjusting the residual income capital charge for market risk, but not for firmspecific risk. We demonstrate two basic flaws in this recommendation. First, the capital charge should not be adjusted for market risk. Charging a market risk premium results in "double" counting because a risk-averse manager will personally consider this risk. Second, while investors can avoid firm-specific risk through diversification, a manager cannot. lf the manager faces significant firm-specific risk at the time he makes his investment decision, then it is optimal to charge him less than the riskless return so as to partially offset his reluctance to undertake risky investments. On the other hand, the manager will vary his investment decisions with the pre-decision information he recevies, which accentuates his compensation risk, and the firm must compensate him for bearing this additional risk. Hence, if the manager will receive relatively precise pre-decision information, then it is optimal to charge him more than the riskless return to reduce the variability of his investment decisions
